I have made myself a very important decision quite recently.
I hate The Catcher in the Rye. I do. Hate it.
About a month ago, we were told to read it in my English class. The teacher said she liked it(actually, she said it was her favorite book EVAR), and I like this teacher, so going into it, I was pretty much going, "Hey, what the hell. A really cool teacher loved it, it can't be too bad."
And that's what fucked me over. >> See, normally, it's the main character that drags a person into something and makes the person like the book/movie/TV show/whatever.
But that's the thing--I absolutely CANNOT stand Holden Caulfield. He just needs to...you know, not be the main character of a mandatory piece of English reading material. (And it doesn't help that I have to psycho-analyze the bastard, and then write a report on it...and it's due tomorrow. >>)
(And then there's the fact that they're making us read the book to begin with. I wonder if they know that every major serial killer has read this book...it makes one wonder just what they're actually "training" us for...)
