Political Soapbox
All this BULLSHIT, and that is exactly what it is between the Republicans and the Democrats is grating on my nerves. There are Dem.'s supporting Repub.'s and vice versa. What the hell is that about?!? We have HOW many troops over seas trying to protect this country and all most people are concerned with is whether gays and lesbians are being treating like second rate citizens or not, and whether just because a same sex couple gets married the world is just going to shit?!?! I have FRIENDS, that I consider part of my family over there risking their lives for this country and the world to make it a safer place.
Now granted, I AM a lesbian and YES I care about these issues, but I do believe there are more important ones that need to be addressed before this one. This presidental election is becoming based on the LGBT community, and although rights and privledges are important, very important, isn't war and peace and less innocent lives taken more important??? We have lived without civin unions and marriage for this long, I know I can live without it a little bit longer until I feel safe again. We aren't going anywhere and the fight will continue, but this is what I ask.
WHAT IS THE POINT OF FIGHTING FOR THESE THINGS IF WE GET BOMBED AND NO ONE IS ALIVE TO FIGHT FOR IT?!?!?!?!
I mean the chances of that happening aren't huge, but they are still there. Again, I don't have to have "marriage," a civin union that gives me the same rights as 'straight couples' is just FINE by me. I don't care what the hell it is called as long as I am given the right to make a legal binding with the one I love, AND if I want to, or need to have a divorce, that I can.
Neither Bush or Kerry is good for this country as a president, but if Kerry gets elected we will never see anything he promises the LGBT community. He is so fucking wishy washy that he is likely to change his mind once he gets our votes to vote him into office and go against us. His statements regrading us have already gone back and forth. Not to mention the Navy making a formal statement saying that a lot of his claims about the wars he has been involved in are LIES!
Right now, Bush is the lesser of two evils in my opinion. No I don't agree with half the shit he says but I DO believe he will keep this country and this world safer than Kerry could even do so in his dreams! Once the major issues are taken care of, then okay let's fight for all the rights we should already have and shouldn't be putting to vote on.
And I truly believe another thing we need to be fighting for is the ACTUAL separation of church and state, because I don't care what anyone says, we DON'T have it!! Of course just like a lot of other things it says we do... that this country was based on the separation of church and state because that was the major reason we came to this land we call the United States of America. (united my ass!!!!) To get away from the pressure of religion and be able to rule ourselves the way we want.
But WHY do people get elected in this country? Where do they look for their ratings? Have we ever seen a man get this high in politics that didn't "APPEAR" to have the perfect family life, seen going to church with a loving wife and 2.5 kids... that lives in a beautiful neighborhood?!?! Not that I know of.
*takes a deep breath* I'm done for now, but damn where are the prioties of today's people?
