Room 410, Wednesday Evening

Feb 04, 2009 17:25

Eve was grateful to Johnny for doing so much to help Savannah, but it left her at a loss as to what to do. And so, rather than emo about it -- well, much, anyway; as a mother, she had a right to a little bit of angsty emo -- she'd tucked herself away in her room with her grimoires, assorted other texts she had around, and was looking for memory- ( Read more... )

Yesterday hadn't been all that bad for Gwynn because she had the annoying habit of saying what was on her mind, any way.

However, she had noticed that Eve had been gone all Monday night and most of yesterday, too. She also noticed that Eve was anxious and had pulled out all of her magic witchy books.

She had done her best to stay quiet and not give in to the questions in her mind for as long as she could.

"What's happened?"

Five minutes. That was a new record for Gwynn.

"Savannah has amnesia."

Eve had appreciated the attempt.

Gwynn frowned. "How did that happen?"

"We don't know," Eve said. "We have absolutely no idea."

And she kind of hated herself a little like that.

Rationality was not her friend right now.

Gwynn got up from the bed and came to sit down next to Eve.

"Can I help?"

"I don't know," Eve said softly. "At this point, I don't even know what I can do."

Gwynn took a breath.

"You be there for her, like a mother and a friend," she said calmly. "It's what you know how to do and what you can do without much thought."

Sometimes the simplest answers were the best ones.

"But she doesn't know me anymore," Eve said. "What if she doesn't want me around because of that?"

"Know you or not, she will still feel the bond between the two of you," Gwynn counseled in a gentle voice. "That feeling is not memory or logic, but a bond that exists beyond all of that, Eve." She lay her head on her friend's shoulder. "More important than that, she needs you now more than ever."

"I know she needs me, but..." Eve's hands flailed as she tried to figure out how to say it. "You didn't see her, Gwynn. She's so scared. I think just about everything scares her right now."

"Which is why she needs you more than ever, Eve. Think about how you would feel if you couldn't remember anything and you were aware of how much it was hurting every one around you that you couldn't remember who they were. You are scared and guilty and feel very much alone in all of this. " She shook her head. "Don't let her feel guilty and alone, Eve. Don't let her withdraw into herself. She's your daughter and she needs you more than she ever has."

"Johnny once told me to back off and stop trying to fix everything for her," Eve said. "Okay, he didn't say it quite like that, but that's what it amounted to." She smiled sadly. "I'm pretty sure he didn't mean things like this, too."

"Eve... would you want everyone to stay away from her and stop trying to fix things in a situation like this? Johnny loves her, but I'm betting this breaks his heart as much as this is breaking yours and he would want you to do what you could to make your daughter feel better during all of this stress and confusion."

"I know. I really do. It's just... scary for me, too." She managed a better smile. "I'm thinking he and I can officially amend it to 'stop trying to fix everything she can already fix herself.'"

"She can't fix this for herself," Gwynn pointed out reasonably. "She needs all of those that love her to work together to help her."

"I just... don't know what to do, Gwynn. Being there for her isn't enough."
