Wherein Lid gets SeriousFace

Hmmm. It appears that the theme of this episode was that "things are never as they seem". They are never quite what we think them to be. Just a thinky thought:

The boys tried to re-create the spell that would take them back to their universe. But it's not like they got it handed to them on a recipe card. They did well remembering everything they did. When it didn't work, they assumed it was because there was no magic in that universe.

That's an understandable conclusion, given that things are working differently there in a lot of ways. (I also like how they assumed that God doesn't traverse universes. Oh. Sam. Assume that he does... that's clue number one that we should be looking harder!)

It wasn't the ingredients that were the problem. It was a contraindication. It didn't work because they aren't angel enough. What they didn't know about was one of the main ingredients. At the time, it appeared co-incidental - entirely unrelated even - but it wasn't: they needed to spill human blood.

For Virgil's trip, he killed so many people, the set was literally decimated. Just to talk to Raphael, he killed Misha. For the boys' trip, someone or something pierced Bathlazar's side so that his human vessel was bleeding when he sent them away. Since he's also an angel, I imagine it took less.

Why would Show make such a statement like that about angel spells - again - always requiring the sacrifice of human blood, if it wasn't some kind of foreboding, right? Watch again when they first land in Fake Me land and see whose bloody clothes roll by behind them.

I could be full of it...
