That's a lovely version of the story. Almost makes it palatable.

He owes that boy one more visit before all of this goes down. He knows that he's not going to live through it, but he has to keep his sons safe, and the only way he can keep them out of harm's way is to make sure they are nowhere around when it finally catches up to him.

Hehehe. You see that, huh? Yes, it made it more interesting to show all the brothers as what they are, just brothers, and bring them into today without losing the moral of their particular experience.

Thank you. It took a little while to hammer out. Once I got the order right, I was amazed by the mirrors between the stories.

I thought of the parallels of The Win Bros and Abel and Cain the first I watched SN. Then in season 5 it looked like they were really pushing that concept hard trying to have Dean and Sam duke it out as a finale.I still don't know why they changed horses midstride and went with Adam. Didn't make much sense to me.

It's beginning to make me feel oddly empty that John doesn't have a brother. I mean, there are the echoes in his interactions with the other hunters, but somehow the solitary nature of him is ... a brother without a brother. Making the theme skip and slide a little into the two different grooves. Not a criticism, just interesting. I like how the brothers theme maintains SamnDean's presence. But it's somehow making John even more of a mystery than ever!

I think the closest that John might have ever come to brothers was his fellow soldiers in the war - where he didn't kill anyone, I might add - and his fellow hunters. But even though they were brothers, he always took responsibility for their fates and stayed away more than he should have because of it. The friends who died because of him did so willingly, but losses like that sent John deeper into a solitary spiral of self-blame. As good a man as John was, I think that's an important distinction... that they all had friends who would die for them, but where John took sacrifices personally, the boys have learned to let go. They honored their friends choices instead of trying to decide for them.
