It's a good feeling to get the RockAuto wholesaler closeout email (the scary part is how many things they are closing out), to go through the whole thing really quick and be surprised at how I don't need any of that stuff for Zilla because we've already done it.
* Brakes, done (for now, disc upgrade later).
* Fuel hoses, done.
* Power brake booster, done -- not liking how it's working, but it can wait.
* Differential pinion seals, done. Okay, the front is done and is now shiny like the back. I have the parts for the back. I just haven't done it yet. It's 24 degrees. And I'm lazy.
SHINY!
* FRAM PH5s for $2!... eh, nope. I refrain. After shipping, it's about the same as anywhere.
* Oil pan gasket, done. That was a fun night grinding my shoulders into the concrete. Aaron bought me a roller cart after that.
* Blower motor and wheel, haven't done that yet. It runs with the one it's got. $75 for the set is a good deal but I want to put A/C in it eventually and I'd have to upgrade if I took this. ... Pass.
* Spark plugs and wires. Done.
* Idler arm. $15. Geez that's good... oh wait, it's not for 4 wheel drive. Man, everything is for 2 wheel drive except the shocks that I don't need. Bah.
* TH350 Transmission Filter, done. Trying not to get started on gear ratios and drive train and all that from there... wants more power, precious.
* Oil pump seal, hmm. Not leaking. Could do it anyway. Five bucks... Hm...
I feel better.
Once that new selector shaft seal is in and hopefully stops the last transmission leak (like a sieve, I tell ya, after that long haul) then Zilla will officially be in a condition to drive to work around town. I'm excited about that.
I owe you guys more pictures, but he really looks pretty much the same as he always did. Everything going on so far has been maintenance under the hood. Upgrades will be done by us and there's a local shop I want to have do the body work and paint, which he needs really bad.
A little more rust on the chrome, but that just means I need a better all-weather tarp. There is no way this giant is ever fitting in the garage... unless I put the low profile 16s that I have in the garage -- that would be hilarious. And no.
For those 'tsk'ing at my rust problem, yep, I have a new mirror for that side, too, for about 24 bucks. The bracket inside the mirror is just plain shot and at any speed over 40MPH, it adheres itself to the door. It's not too much of a hazard because in this truck you can see the St. Louis skyline from north Texas on a clear day.
Later.
