Soooo... we were happily trending Supernatural's return last night on the CW with various hash tags and whatnot (#supernatural, #godhaslefthebuilding, etc.) and a user with access to Sean PDIDDY Comb's entertainment accounts (should we assume PDiddy sits around on Twitter like John Mayer does? who knows? anyway...) this person decides to take exception to the hash #luciferiscoming and, without investigating what the tag is actually about, proceeds to set up a combative hash tag about how #godishere and "let the devil know the fight he's in for". This is shortly after he says that he would endorse President Obama slapping Congressman Joe Wilson in the face. Um. Yeah.
Twitter responded by filtering all remotely Supernatural-related hashes out of the trending topics. We had been Twittering as the lead trending topic for over 10 hours and once #GodisHere showed up, it took under two hours for the whole thing to come crashing to it's knees and put a host of TV show fans in a quagmire. Because one person - and then one by one times hundreds - didn't spare themselves a few minutes to fully understand what was going on.
Especially after yesterday, I wish I was making this up. I AM ONLY REPORTING THE FACTS.
But personally? Buh-zuh. The power of a single person is under-estimated?.... or Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups? *shrugs* Take your pick. *facepalm*
