One of the handiest things I've seen you can do on a phone is not a secret code like above but getting information from the web with text messages. Send a text string to 466453 (GOOGLE) and you get all kinds of responses.

Sending just "HELP" and you get a list of commands. Sending "AA 1421" will give you the airport gate and time information for American Airlines flight 1421.

The cool thing is you can do this with any phone that can SMS text (PDA not required). That's my 2 cents.

Ok, it's not THAT cool, but it is a practical thing I use almost daily.

Send "Bank of America, Plano TX" or "w [ANY ZIP]" and see what you get back.
