A/N: This was supposed to be longer and hotter, but it turned out to be short and sweet. Couldn't bring myself to have Victoria be unfaithful to her fiancé. Might do a sequal in the future, however. Based on the prompt by my friend:
Amber is in college, Victoria is engaged to the CEO of a big-name company. They meet in some shady bar (AU). SHINee's song Dynamite should ttly be playing in the background of that shady bar (let's imagine the atmosphere it gives off etc) because unff
“What ever happened to ‘just dinner and a couple of drinks’?”
Victoria sighed as she looked back to the glass in her hand. She was sitting by herself at one of the tables, her friends having left to dance at the small dance floor. They had gone out for a “quiet evening” in celebration of one of the girl’s birthday, but somehow ended up at the part of town Victoria was less comfortable visiting. The bar itself was small, slightly run down, and to be frank, kind of shady. The two men sitting at the bar were staring into nothing as they both nursed their nth glasses of whiskey, the bartender casting annoyed glances at her friends’ singing and laughing. He obviously wasn’t very amused by them.
She sighed again as she took the last sip on her drink, a glass of Chardonnay, looking at the watch. She was the only sober one, having therefore been ordered to watch everyone’s bags and jackets, but her head was starting to hurt with the slight cracking of the speakers, the bass not sounding quite right. She decided wanted to call her fiancé and ask him to send her the car, wanting nothing more than to curl up in their couch and watch one of those cheesy dramas they always showed on TV at this time.
But as she looked up to see which friend seemed most sensible at this time, a voice spoke from her other side.
“Would you like a refill on that glass?”
Victoria turned her head to the boy standing at her side. He looked young, barely of legal age, with white skinny jeans, leather jacket over a T-shirt with some band Victoria knew where popular, but had never heard. He had several piercings in his ears and a snapback over his black hair. For some reason, he had lined his eyes with kohl as well, giving him a rockier edge.
Even if she wasn’t engaged, he really wasn’t her type.
“I’m sorry, but I’m just about to leave”, she said, trying to be polite.
“Come on, let me buy you one drink?” the boy pleaded. He was even pouting.
“I’m taken”, she simply said.
The boy shrugged and sat down next to Victoria, ignoring her frown. “That’s fine with me, I just want to talk. My friends are at that table-” she said with a grimace, and pointed behind her, “-sucking face and I really don’t need to see more of that tonight.” Victoria looked over and saw a girl straddling a boy, kissing fiercely. She couldn’t hide the face she made at their public display of affection, and the boy snorted with laughter. “So, let me just sit here for a while? Like I said, I’ll buy you a drink.”
Victoria thought about the couch for a second, but the boy’s pleading look made her feel sorry for him. “Fine”, she said. “I will have another glass of wine in that case.”
The boy practically beamed as he jumped up. “Got it, just wait here.”
Victoria picked up her cell phone and sent a message to her fiancé, telling him that she would be home later and that she would just grab a taxi home. She got a confirmation from him, just as the boy came back with her wine and a bottle of beer for himself. He smiled as he sat down, handing her the glass. “So, what’s your name?” he asked and took a sip.
“I’m Victoria”, she said. “My friends dragged me here and I’m seriously too sober for a place like this.” The boy chuckled. “What about you?”
“This was supposed to be a fun night out after exams, but we lost most of our group, and the three of us ended up here. I’m Amber, by the way.”
“Amber?” Victoria asked, confused. “But I thought you were-”
“-That I was a boy?” Amber smirked. “I figured when you said you were taken”, she said and took another sip.
Victoria felt herself blush, she felt embarrassed that she had been so wrong. “I am so sorry, I really didn’t mean-”
“That’s fine,” Amber said and shrugged, still smirking. “I get it a lot; I’m used to it by now.”
Victoria still felt a little bit silly. She played with the glass in her hand. “Thank you so much for the wine… Amber”, she said.
“Don’t mention it. I’m just glad I have someone to talk to, who don’t have their tongue down someone else’s throat.”
Victoria couldn’t help but laugh at that.
More than an hour later, Victoria was still sitting with the same glass of wine in her hand, having only taken a couple of sips from it. Her headache was long gone, just as forgotten as the will to go home.
Amber was a college student, attending one of the schools in the area where the bar was located, majoring in math with a minor in Chinese (the fact lead to them speaking in Mandarin for a while, until Amber’s knowledge was completely exhausted). She was funny, smart and charming as few, and she made Victoria blush more than once as she expressed just how pretty the older girl was. There was just something about her.
As the time went on and the conversation grew longer, they had ended up closer to one another, trying to hear each other better over the crackling from the sound system. They were close enough that Victoria could smell the other girl’s perfume, a musky scent that went perfectly with her style.
And then, it was like a spell was broken. The heavy, upbeat pop song that had been playing in the background ended abruptly, and her friends were gathering around the table, looking disgruntled.
“The guy working here says they’re closing”, one of them side. “We were thinking of trying to find another place, it’s only 2 AM now. Are you coming with us?”
Some of her friends were looking curiously at Amber, making Victoria blush.
“I think I’ll just go home instead, I told Wei I would be back soon.” Her friend raised her brow at her, but didn’t say anything.
Victoria bid all of her friends goodbye as they left the place. She giggled when she saw Amber winking at some of them when they couldn’t stop staring at her. She would have to explain the situation to them tomorrow.
“Should we go as well?” Amber asked, motioning at the grumpy-looking bartender, who kept staring at them.
Victoria nodded, picked up her things and together they went out into the chilly, spring air. Amber had tucked her hands into her pockets while Victoria tried to get a cab.
“Thank you for keeping me company tonight, Victoria”, Amber said as a yellow car rolled up to them.
“My pleasure”, Victoria replied. “Thanks again for the wine. Are you sure you can go home by yourself?”
Amber smiled. “I live just a few blocks away from here, I’ll be fine.” Her smile faltered a little, seeming hesitant, before she leaned in and gave Victoria a kiss on the cheek. She was blushing as she pulled away, waving awkwardly before hurriedly walking away.
Her fiancé was still up when she arrived home. He was watching a drama on the TV, and motioned for her to sit down next to him.
“Did you have fun with the girls?” he asked as she curled up next to him.
She touched her cheek, where she could still feel the warmth of Amber’s lips. “Yeah”, she said, thankful for the dark room as she could feel herself blush. “It was dynamite.”
