"Cool Cars" Regulation Poses Problems
This is an interesting new rule that California plans to enforce in 2012. Since air conditioning in cars burns more gas and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, CA wants automakers to limit the amount of solar energy entering vehicles.
Sounds smart... however, the cell phone industry says these new "cool cars" could be problematic for cell phone usage. People shouldn't be blabbling on their phones while driving anyway, you may be saying to yourself... but what about emergency 911 calls on the road?
They claim that the type of glazing they would use on the cars reduces cell signal strength. But the state says otherwise. Many car manufacturers have already admitted that will have to redesign all vehicles with GPS systems due to these new solar blocking rules.
