Summary: What was going on with Arizona in that elevator scene?
A/N: Drabblrific! Title nicked from Ingrid Michaelson's "Incredible Love".
It was always the elevator. She had nearly stopped when she saw Callie standing in the back, waiting. It seemed that this moment had also been waiting for them to enter the same space again. "We'll see each other at work..." Those ludicrous words came back to haunt her as Callie's scent lingered around her, inflaming her senses. She breathed deeply and quickly realized her mistake. The smell was concentrated by the close walls of the elevator and her deprivation. She was so ready when Callie uttered her name that even if the tone hadn't broken her resolve, the voice would have. Thoughts flew away and she simply acted. That action gave her succor and set a righteous fire in her body that consumed every molecule of oxygen in her body.
Debilitating need was replaced with a euphoria, washing away her pain in a lightening strike of satisfaction. Lips erasing fear and deeply seeded denial. No pleasure felt like this. It was better than the first kiss, sweeter than the first profession of love, but it was fleeting. Arizona's walls slammed back in place, keeping her heart locked away even as it strained against her chest. Those brown eyes held her until her axis was corrected but as she turned away she fell again, back out of orbit and into the shadows of their love. Her hunger for the feel of Callie's skin blazing anew. Shallow breaths issued from her mouth and though her stride seemed confident it was merely determined. She couldn't keep on slipping because it was still there. The reason they couldn't be together still haunted her, keeping desire from winning in the end.
Callie could do nothing more but watch as a whirlwind of emotion stormed through her and out of the elevator. If only she had been able to finish. The name was just the beginning but her speech bad been replaced the physicality of their reuniting bodies. If only Arizona had stayed to hear her confess her need and its obliteration of everything else that mattered. She watched Arizona and felt the world rush back towards her, making her ache in the absence of their embrace.
