So SUNY Purchase...

Despite ResLife kind of screwing me over at the moment, I want to go NOW! Seriously, the more I find out and more stuff I'm getting settled about going - the more excited I get. I can't get fully pumped, however, until I friggin' get housing. Because if I don't get housing, I can't go - bottom line.
I went to a Transfer Advising day thingy this past Thursday - and it was confirmed by a current student that ResLife and Admissions are consistently disorganized and not on the ball. I thought Coby was bad, but from working there I know at least the Admissions Office is on point. The main perk of the day was getting to select my classes for the fall semester - and I think my schedule's pretty good. So far it consists of:

HIS1200 Development of the US - 3 credits - Tues&Fri - 12:30-1:50 (taking only because I need an American History class for GenEd requirement)
HIS3770 Traditional China - 4 credits - Mon&Thurs - 10:30-12:10 (Other WorldCiv GenEd requiremnt, 4 of my 45 needed upper-level credits, and satisfying my love of Asian culture? Win)
JOU2515 Journalism I - 4 credits - Mon&Thurs - 12:30-1:50 (sounds pretty much exactly what I did at Coby, but my temp. advisor I talked with on Thursday said that course should at least be counting as a Journalism elective *shrug*)
SOC2020 Human Sexuality - 3 credits - Mon - 2:30-5:30 (Should be pretty interesting, and it satisfies my Race and Gender GenEd requirement).

After looking more at the Journalism program page, I'm thinking now to keep my major as Journalism and just apply to have Visual Arts as a minor. It seems that it would be easier to get into the minor than to try to completely change my major. Plus, the Journalism degree seems pretty free in what I have to do - and some of the classes I have an option of taking as elective make me want to go *squee*. Namely Photojournalism, and The Beat of Music Journalism <--HELLO what I want to do with my life =).
I'm hoping that some of my Cobleskill art/graphic design classes can count as the pre-reqs I need to get into the VA minor - I need 4 studio class credits and 4 Art History credits. I have more than 4 studio credits, but I hope all of my classes that could fit under that umbrella don't count, because then I'd only need to take one course and that kind of defeats the purpose of me wanting the VA minor to take more art classes. Art History II should count as three credits, and if so I'd pick up an art history class this semester to take care of the rest. The two open classes that I'm interested in are either 3000 or 4000 level, so that knocks another upper-level out of the way. It'd raise my course load to 18 credits, two being upper-level, but I think that's manageable.

I need to make many emails tomorrow. The head of housing person to explain my situation. The website says that Digital Photography I is a prereq for Photojournalism, so I'm hoping that my Digital Imaging class suffices that because I really do not want to take that over, so I'm gonna email the lady who was my temporary advisor and ask her, and the Advising Center to ask many questions regarding the Visual Arts minor business. My crazy ass might even consider double-minoring (if possible), since you only need to take 5 courses for the Asian Studies minor, and many options would satisfy things I need to do for my Journalism degree/VA minor (if allowed).

And on a random, kind-of related note - I applied to try to get a Photographer's Pass for my stop of the Warped tour. Saw in an email that they were looking for people, and I explained in the request that I've taken photography and graphic design classes at Cobleskill, attending Purchase in the fall for Journalism/hopefully Visual Arts, and that my dream job is to be a photojournalist for a music magazine. It would be awesome if I got chosen, and if I'd be allowed to use my film camera - get some potential portfolio pieces. Either way, it'd be a good opportunity to just practice my skills.
