I just thought I would introduce myself, since I am new to the community. I study African and African Diaspora history. I range all over the place - my M.A. is about the identity of folks who were enslaved by the Portuguese in eastern Nigeria and Central Africa and then sold in Ghana, and whose descendents (I argue) were re-enslaved and sold to the Americas, and became the Kromantis, or the folks who led most of the major revolts and Maroon groups in the British and Dutch Caribbean. I try to take this process of ethnic formation up to contemporary urban gangs. My Ph.D. research will focus on a region of Angola known as Kisama, which is known for harboring thousands (if not millions) of folks who fled from the slave trade, and also on quilombos and resistance in Sao Tome and Brazil.
So, yeah, I am interested in all of our history, but mostly resistance history.
Thanks.
