My deep honest thoughts on Harry Potter 7 part 1:before I forget! xD
Well I have to say for this movie I APPROVE! I mean there are parts I'm like "wtf david yates!" BUT overall I enjoyed it and that's wat matters,& So as not to be spoiled LONG thoughts under cut. My personal rating is 3.8 out of 5.
Well I like how instead of just having Hermione tell Harry about her erasing her parents' memories, there is a scene of her doing it.Stuck well to the intro, so thumbs up on that. What i DIDN'T like in that intro is that the action is very short lived, I expected more adrenaline, more killing, but it was gone as soon as it begun and although we see Hedwig's demise in a completely different way, I felt the action lacked. Also, Greg losing his ear and them keeping to the same joke line as the book? Brilliance! My negative thoughts on that scene is the lack of emotion, seriously Molly's son is injured as is Arthur's and in the book it is EMOTIONAL and DRAMATIC because they don't know if he's going to wake up and when Fred sees his twin like that he's WORRIED and what do we get in the movie? Nothing but a bit of somberness and patience and that is the end of that, BIG DOWNER. I mean in the book Mad Eye dies and they drink to his name and there is sadness, here? Just a mention and MOVING ON. Another thing: Harry never asks the guys to go with him and in the movie it makes it seem like they are FORCED to go,we have Harry trying to sneak away at night and Ron going after him and personally I liked that in the book it was the three of them against the world and here it is them (Ron and Hermione) being dragged into it.
Then we also have the wedding, uhm hello? Reason Harry takes the polyjuice potion is because he is being HIDDEN but in a sense I didn't mind because the wedding is very short lived and well we never get to see the snitch cake, althou it gets a mention, oh well. The bag being kept there is AWESOME, and honestly Rupert Grint is love. He's just so comedic, there were lots of laughs in this movie. The cafe scene? I'm not a big fan.I like how they attack each other, they go to blows BUT I don't agree with how it turns out,a complete change from the book. The introduction of Kreacher was sort of bleh and plus in the book near the end of their stay they become strangely attached to him and that's never shown in the movie @all. The whole going into the Ministry of Magic skips past all of their planning, which is understandable, and it becomes comedic which is actually enjoyable although different also all in all that part was actually pretty okay.
The splinched scene was AWESOME! I loved the effect on the arm, I have to say my favorite acting scenes were that of Rupert and Emma, they were great! I also really enejoyed the upping of the romance, being a die-hard R/Hermione shipper myself. The following scenes of them wearing the necklace, taking turns and nothing really happening was actually pretty good, the only thing that I have to criticize is that you couldn't really tell months passed except for the change of clothes since even the weather looked pretty much the same. Once again I LOVE Rupert's acting in the fighting scene and disliked the downplay that was done once he left. In the book Hermione comes back crying and hurt and in the movie, just sad. So yeah not a huge fan of how much they kept changing the emotional scenes. Another point, the Harry Hermione dance? I thought I was going to hate it and in the beginning (how it started) I kind of did bc of how Radcliffe approaches Watson, seems too romantic, BUT in the end it was a silly dance and you could see it as Harry trying to cheer Hermione up and Watson outdid herself because you can see the translation from joyous and enjoying herself from joy to sadness again, because deep down as a fan of course she missed Ron! HAHAHA
Godric's Hollow was a pretty good part and again they choose to ignore the polyjuice potion but I like that there is a mention ( in this movie you will actually see that SOME scenes that are missing are simply brought up by the mention of them) and we proceed to the sadness of Harry finding his parents' graves. This was a good emotional scene, though a short one like the many others that happen. Nagini was cool but I didn't like this part because it didn't stay true to the end of that fight, mostly because Nagini had called Voldemort in the book and Harry could feel him coming and in the movies it was just getting away from Nagini and that was that. Harry learns his wand is broken and I believe his frustation is only a tad bit apparant but again we move on from that to the Gryffindor sword being found.
I must say, I loved Rupert's scenes, have I mentioned that? I think it perhaps clouded my judgement of the movie as a whole since it may not have been all that true to the book but him as a hero-I love. We get the whole him going back, rescuing Harry and Harry's reaction being more anger than relief is also true. The kissing scene, which I also thought I would hate, I actually quite enjoyed it. I love how they looked because they didn't look like Harry or Hermione as we always see them and it also word for word stayed by the book.We also get Ron's return which is also very book-based so I loved that. The whole them talking in the tent, not so great because it was like an added scene for comedy and although I enjoyed it, still. OH! This reminds me, the radio that Ron listens to the whole time? DOESN'T COME UP IN THE BOOK UNTIL HIS RETURN unlike in the movie that he has it since the beginning. Then going to see Luna's Dad I didn't really like it because this whole scene was just almost completely different than the book. There is no Luna's room where we see all of her "friend's" faces, there is no Hermione arguing the Deathly Hallows point,we basically only get the story and like a ten second action scene and that's it.
The capture of all of them is also completely different. We never learn about the jynx Voldemort has on his name, in away it's VERY subtly shown when Xenophilius Lovegood calls out Voldemort's name and the house gets attacked by the Death Eaters but you'd have to have read the book to really know it, we also have Harry figuring it out on his own about the snitch instead of Hermione reminding him, and we have Ron trying to make the "glowing light" sound romantic for Hermione which is amusing, but sooo different than the book. The only thing about the capturing scene that is the same is that Hermione jynxes Harry's face in hopes to not have him recognized although he doesn't seem to wonder why while in the book it took him a while to understand. Malfoy and the family look fantastic and I am a HUGE fan of Helena Bonham Carter and I LOVE how she portrays Bellatrix(and I may have mispelled that since I haven't read the book in a while and I'm too lazy to google right now). This scene is also different since there is no Greyback BUT I have to say Emma Watson's screams of pain when Bellatrix is torturing her (and this is also different because in the book she uses cruciatus curse) by cutting her, I mean I got the goosebumps-no joke. The downside is while we finally find Ollivander and Luna in the book there is more development of surprise and "wat are you guys doing here?" While in the movie it's like "oh u guys are here." moving on. Also in the book Ron is desperate here, he hears Hermione screaming as she is being tortured and he is screaming and fighting against the bars trying to get to here whilst here they have Rupert do nothing but look upward and then look @Wormtail in disdain when he goes to get the goblin. Another change in here is Wormtail does not die in this scene, in the book he does but here Dobby simply knocks him down.
Dobby's death was heartbreaking in the book, I was bawling like a baby. In the movie I really like that they kept the scene and that the burial is also done non-magically since it is something Harry knew. What was missed from the book was the tombstone Harry placed as well as the burial being by everyone including Luna who was saved by him and honestly the emotion in that scene was not great. Personally it was a pretty speedy movie and that's cool since it allowed many things to fit but some things were changed too much and the fact that it was so speedy also didn't allow the emotional scenes to play out too well like here in Dobby's funeral. Also I didn't feel Daniel was very moved in this scene and so although this scene is in the movie, I felt it lacked emotion and that is a big downer.
Lastly, the movie ends with Voldemort breaking open Dumbledore's coffin to steal the Elder Wand which is what we know he wants ever since the three friends visited Xenophilius Lovegood, now here I miss sort of Dumbledore's burial honestly but I love that the site is also out of white marble as it describes in the book. It also leaves me waiting for part two next year because this is where things will DEFF. start to heat up I mean the next few chapters are even MORE action. In conclusion I enjoyed the movie, it can't be perfect but I do feel if it could've been slower it would've been better because the action scenes wouldn't have ended so quickly and maybe the emotional scenes would make me FEEL.
So that is why I give it a 3.8 out of 5.
P.S. Any Gossip Girl fans out there that are Chuck/Blair fans? HAVE YOU SEEN THE MOST RECENT EPISODE? The fangirl in me was like OMMGGGG AWWWW.
