Crumple Zones Are Good Things

May 15, 2008 22:55

The Colonel was driving home from work today, when another driver pulled into his lane and hit him head-on. The other driver apparently mistook the oncoming traffic lane on a two-lane road, for a turn lane. Silly driver! That's what you get for driving without a license and insurance!

What we get is this:

My husband's 2007 Chevy Silverado LT Extended Cab:

(taken at the site of the accident)

(taken after it was towed)

Notice that the passenger compartment is intact. The DH appears to be uninjured (save for bruises). The crumple zone took the impact like it was supposed to, and the airbag deployed like it was supposed to. He does report that he had to kick his door open to get out.

Two other vehicles were involved. Everybody in them walked away. For a wonder.

Edit: I don't know why the top pic has scrollbars and the lower one does not.

I am now going to put the whole thing behind me and pretend that the most exciting thing that happened to me today was when Miss Chief found the nail polish I didn't know we had.

And mistook it for lip gloss.
