I'm so disappointed for England that they didn't win tonight. I know they'll be gutted, but they've nothing to be ashamed of at all. They got to the final again with a tremendous run of matches after a really poor start when everyone had written them off. Tonight, they were far from outplayed by the Springboks. Every point South Africa scored was from a penalty given for an English infringement, some of them pretty harsh too, especially given the number of SA infringements the ref didn't penalise.
Matthew Tait's run into South African territory was spectacular and Mark Cueto's try being disallowed was harsh, really harsh. I couldn't believe it. It didn't look like he was in touch to me, no matter how many times they showed the replays.
If that's in touch, it's by the width of a hair.
Ball down, definitely not in touch.
I think it would have been a whole different game if the try had been allowed. Even without a conversion, that would have put England at 8-9 down early in the second half. The England team have all been very gracious about it, but it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
I hope South Africa enjoy their four years as reigning World Champions because we're coming for the Webb Ellis trophy again in New Zealand in 2011.
Poor Billy Whizz.
