One down, one to go!

Thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts! You've really helped me feel better, and kept me going during this difficult and somewhat scary time. I'm humbled by and so appreciative of your support.

Briel, your card arrived the day before the surgery; perfrect timing to cheer me up when I was feeling all nervous. Thank you!

Jenn, you're so thoughtful, and you brightened my day so much with your frog card. It was here when I got home from the hospital, so again with the wonderful timing. Thanks!

Surgery was unpleasant, but it went well. The surgeon said my carpal tunnel was really tiny, which explains how my condition got so bad, so fast, and didn't get caught until it'd done some major permanent damage. This actually makes me feel better; it tells me I didn't just excuse the symptoms and let it go for months or years while it ravaged my hands. It was fast and intense and not my fault.

The procedure was an open carpal tunnel release, which involves the cutting of this ligament that's compressing the nerves. I was out of the hospital in under six hours; the procedure did take a little longer for me because of the strange biological circumstances in there. Afterward, the pain level was not as bad as the pre-procedure condition. However, in the mornings, in the middle of the night, whenever it's been a while since I've medicated, I definitely feel the incision down into my hand. It's really hard to function with it all wrapped up, and if I overdo (i.e., showering yesterday), it gets painful. Typing is hard, but I had to update. And ask an important question.

Say Wolverine has developed carpal tunnel syndrome from, like, slicing stuff with his adamantium claws. If he were to undergo the release surgery, would the cut ligament just knit back together again? Would his mutant healing factor "heal" the surgical procedure?

hands, surgery
