I knew a woman who fed her son McDonald's every. single. day. She worked like 2 jobs, and just didn't have time to prepare nutritious meals. I agree, the state should look more in depth (which hopefully they are). They may just not be knowledgeable in proper nutrition for a growing child. Also, what about his health? Could he have thyroid issues which caused the weight gain? Is he on medication, like Prednisone which causes serious weight gain?

I can't see the link for whatever reason, but I'm hoping there's more to this than mom just not really giving a damn.

I have to admit that I come from a bias of not understanding how a parent could not understand and comply with directives to improve their childrens' health. Would this be a question if the child were a diabetic and the parent was not monitoring them and giving the child insulin or if the child was an asthmatic and the parent wasn't putting them on a nebulizer as needed? I don't know ( ... )

It looks like she was trying to get him to adhere to the diet and recommendations, but his friends were helping him sneak food.

It seems to me a medical evaluation should've been done to determine why he is overweight in order to determine if it's mom's fault.

It should be understood that sometimes weigh loss will not happen for whatever reason or someone may regain some weight. They should've determined why he was regaining before taking him.

Having worked in the system, I know that sometimes the State doesn't do the right thing.

The important thing is the kid, not mom's feelings, the State, etc.
