I once read an article (NY Times?) about how racist artifacts like lawn jockeys are starting to be major collector items by some black folk. Think there may be a store dedicated to it in Harlem?
I mean, I went to Costa Rica this summer and a lot of the art featured black-skinned (not dark, but black) little girls with frizzy hair, but the intent was not racist or colonial at all. And this particular pin doesn't strike me as pickaninny-ish.
I personally spent a more-than-necessary chunk of money on an old copy of Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse and the Boy Thursday book to keep as a cultural artifact of my own because I think it's important to remember.
