Well, I'm posting this a little late, but its something I wanted to post about...
Several months ago, I won tickets to the Broadway production of The Lion King that is playing here in Austin. Originally, my mom and little sis were supposed to come visit and go with us, but plans fell through and they weren't able to come. We decided we wanted to take a couple from the Hall, but we weren't sure who. We had a few stipulations: first it had to be a couple with no kids... we didn't want any teary eyed kids that would hate us for taking their parents and not them. Second, it had to be someone who would actually enjoy something like this... so we started asking around... each and every couple we asked had various reasons why they couldn't go... it was starting to look grim...
Then, we decided to ask this pioneer couple, Frank and Dana. Initially we were reluctant, because they're normally the outdoors-y type. When we asked Dana, her jaw nearly hit the floor and when she told Frank, he nearly fainted. It turns out they had been dying to go since it was announced that it was coming. But, due to their pioneering, they were not able to afford tickets. They viewed it as a blessing from Jehovah. The tickets were for Saturday, March 3 at 2pm. So, plans were made to work in service with them that morning, then attend the show and go to dinner afterwards.
That morning arrived, Jenn and I got to the Hall a little late, but they had made sure the brother conducting the meeting for service knew we were coming. I went on a very encouraging bible study with Frank and Jenn went with Dana on some of her calls. We met with some other friends for a quick lunch, then were off to the show.
The show was AMAZING! If you get a chance to see this PLEASE DO. The artistry and choreography was just spectacular. Being there with good friends made it that much more enjoyable.
After the show, we headed out to dinner. We went to a local place called Zax. It's a rather unique restaurant with different types of food, lots of good beer on draught, including a few local beers, and a laid back yet upscale atmosphere. We had a gift certificate, so we decided we'd treat them.
After the wonderful morning in service, a great show, and good food with good friends, I think it really was a blessing from Jehovah... for them and for us :)
