Newt and Neutrality.

You know the old thing about dropping the frog in hot water vs. putting it in cold water and heating slowly? Stress is like that too... when it hits you all sudden-like, you are immediately aware that it's time to get out of the pan, but growing over time, well, it just becomes part of the background.

I wasn't aware just how much the condition of my car and the entangled issue of transportation was eating at me. Starting up at CSULA in September with a crapshoot on whether I could get there each day was really adding to my apprehension... but I've been doing my best to lay my anxieties to rest and things finally came together... my van, as much as I love the car, died last week... I lack the time to fix it myself, and even if I paid for it, it's reached the point of diminishing returns.

But why is it good? Well, we've been car-shopping for about a month and it finally came down to this: we get annother one. After much crunching and calculation about milage savings, we bought a used Beatle, which will belong to Kat, and I'll get the green SUV beastie.

Now for the van... Either we give it to a cherity for a tax writeoff (which for the first time in ages might be a good idea for us) or we sell it to a nephew as-is, along with some moral support about being able to repair it. He wants to be a mechanic when he gets older and it's not a bad car to learn on, after all.

But at the moment... I feel pretty good, a heavy load has been lifted, and even the prospect of starting my summerschool class isn't causing any dread. Plus, the nights getting longer again helps so much.

On yet annother subject... My work typesetting the D&D System Resource Document is coming along nicely... I have only two more chapters to have the code grind up, then go in and fix the tables up... and lastly, I'll need some help proofing it and pointing out what words to build the index on. Voulenteers please speak up, and don't worry about printing costs.

well, academics, rpg
