Okay, so now that I've read this: laozi April 1 2004, 15:17:51 UTC
All of this mess could be quite easily avoided if straight men wouldn't get so bent out of shape when the slightest aspect of their "masculinity" was questioned. I mean, honestly; all of those ridiculous "rules of the game" and rituals would be pretty unnecessary if every single incarcerated person simply acknowledged that men need to get their rocks off, the only options there are other men, and that being penetrated- while being admittedly a very different sexual experience from penetrating another person- is pretty goddamn fun.

That might not be as plainly understood to the reader as it was to me (the writer) when I just wrote that, so I'll clarify: as the author pointed out, men need to get their rocks off somehow, but masturbation can become pretty damn boring and unfulfilling after a while. Everyone knows this, and if men are your only option, then it generally isn't too difficult for men to reconcile themselves with the fact that they'll simply have to fuck other men. That seems fine to them, but dear god don't let them be the ones being fucked! Why? Two reasons:
1. fear that being fucked will compromise their masculinity (as if that is something that is very important somehow)
2. fear that being fucked will be physically painful (which is the case about the first three times you do it, after which point it no longer hurts but simply feels really good- which is why so many gay men (and straight women) keep doing it.
Both of these reasons are quite easily dismissed with even a small amount of logic (as I just demonstrated), and if everyone who was incarcerated would simply use logic on this topic, then there would be no rape because everyone would simply recognize the facts of the matter and pair up to begin with, switching off in sexual roles and keeping the concerns of their partners foremost. But of course, as too many men have shown time and again (both in prisons and outside of them): when it comes to choosing between masculinity and logic, most straight guys will choose their masculinity every time, and when they are compelled to choose logic (as in the case of "punks"), they have to read or write articles like these to cope with themselves, rather than just recognizing that their precious masculinity really isn't a big deal at all.

Very interesting article. Again, thanks.

I don't think many people in prison are capable of using logic well enough, otherwise they probably wouldn't be in prison (obviously there are some exceptions, like non-violent drug offenders, in which case they don't necessarily have poor logic, but rather simply got caught).
