Thought I would do an intro post. I'm Rebecca. I'm 20, from Sydney, Australia.
I currently study Design (majoring in Graphics and Textiles, however I am not as much into Textiles, but I had to pick two.) That's a taste of my work. Some of my inspirations - fashion illustration (love long limbs), Ralph Steadman, Reg Mombassa (or anything Mambo, it's the puns and humour), nostalgia, sketchbooks/art journals (preferably messy), Alex Turvey, Egon Scheile.
Films - A Hard Days Night, Stand By Me. Flight Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, My Own Private Idaho (River Phoenix = best actor)
Books - The Catcher in the Rye is my absolute favourite. I also love anything by Nick Hornby, I can read High Fidelity over and over.
TV - Misfits, Black Books, The Mighty Boosh, The Office, Flight of the Conchords, Skins
Music - Blur, The Beatles, Silverchair, Black Rebel Motorcylce Club, Savage Garden, The Strokes, Pink Floyd, Ryan Adams, The Libertines. Maybe refer to
last.fm. Or
8tracks, I enjoy making mixes.
I became fascinated with Britpop at around 15/16. I'm a major Blur fan because of it. Although I have a couple of Oasis inspired usernames that I continue to use from a short-lived phase before I realised nothing past the second album is good.
Lily Allen is sort of an icon to me. I like that she's cynical and British.
i collect tshirts. For the characters/bands on them. It's terrible really! Because I still wear the same few over and over, and I feel so plain when I wear just a tshirt + jeans.
While I do make an effort to wear colours, I unconsciously tend to lean towards black and white. Some of my style inspirations - Effy from Skins, Alison Mosshart, the guy from MGMT who likes wearing headbands, pulling off all black, thick mascara, long/messy hair, Mary-Kate Olsen, Alexa Chung, 90s Kate Moss, punk, Julian Casablancas, grunge, 60s mods.
The Simpsons is probably the only interest of mine that has remained somewhat consistent throughout my life. But nothing past season 8/9, because it got shit. It used to be so good. Clever. Witty. Satirical. It's disappointing how bad it is now. Surely, you notice the (huge) decline in the quality of humour. And those older episodes work on so many levels, I mean watching them now you see everything that went over your head as a kid! Yet it wasn't so much that 5 year olds can't follow the plot.
There are other things I like I consider slightly shameful. This includes things like The OC (I want to marry someone like Seth Cohen, please) and Taylor Swift (it's mainly for the lyrics, seriously she puts all kinds of boys into better words than I can.)
I hate my image. I'm pretty shy, which apparently means you're "good." I've proved to people otherwise on occasions, but still can't shake it completely. I wish I was seen more as Effy Stonem, minus the going crazy part.
Feel free to add me however I am the laziest LJer ever these days. I'm way more active on
Tumblr.
