Sunset

"Summer is over and gone, over and gone."

Shuichi shifted slightly one the sun-bathed couch he was lying on. "Charlotte Web? You surprise me, Yuki. What brought on such mournful tones?"

Outside the spotlight, Yuki reflected, Shuichi was a properly educated, thoughtful young man. Whyever he felt the need to clown around in front of his work-relations were beyond him. Not even that guitarist Nakano understood, and that young man had known the brat far longer than the novelist had. "Summer is ending."

"There will be other summers." Shuichi waved a lazy hand about. "Why do we mourn the sunset, Yuki? The sun will rise again the next day; the same sun, in the same sky."

It took Yuki a moment to think of a response that would not get himself laughed at, "Because it is..."

"Like life?" the singer interjected, "that it is something that is beyond human to change; that what is born will eventually die? That summer passing is the passing of the glorious pinacle of living? Ah, Yuki Eiri... Don't you know? The beauty of life is in its impermanence." again, Shuichi waved a careless hand, gesturing to nothing and everything.

The last part was said in perfect British eloquence that never failed to startle the novelist. "Sometimes..." he said at last, "I couldn't understand you at all." It was part complain, part puzzlement, part indifference.

"And is that a bad thing?" Shuichi chuckled softly this time. "Someone easily understood would be boring."

Yuki wasn't so sure about that.

"Delicately, the Wind Sings"

"Stopping down the street to listen
To a song that no one hears.
A snatches and two, and more and none
Like playful fey and giggling fairies.

He sang his heart out
In a voice that no one hears
I want to make a ballad
That mirrors his song

Delicately, the Wind Sings
Like a Dream
Forgotten in the light of Day
Like a Dream, the Wind Sings
Delicately, like a Dream

It makes me think, that
in this world there are many
Songs that we could hear
if only we stop and listen

Songs, sung by restless Souls
The Sighs hidden by Nights
The Ballads of all these Voices
Forgotten in the Wind

Delicately, the Wind Sings
Like a Dream
Forgotten in the wake of Living
Like a Dream, the Wind Sings
Delicately, like a Dream

Forgotten in the light of Day
Forgotten in the wake of Life
And yet, the Wind Sings
With the Soul, with the Heart"

+"Delicately, the Wind Sings" by Konomiya Kaoru/Shiina
