Criminal Minds tonight:
Holy cow, we are getting a Hotch-focused episode. That hasn't happened in a while.
And the point of character development being all related to the past and being able to move on -- HOLY CONTINUITY COW!!! Haley mentions. Team speculation about Hotch dating again. Hotch and Rossi talking about it like two mature adults. Understanding the terrible pain of grief and how the fear of facing loss and letting go seems like unacceptable failure.
How long do you supposed Hotch felt like he failed Haley, even though there was nothing he rationally could have done differently to prevent her death?
Jack has probably been his biggest help in healing that wound, as we've seen glimpses of.
And then there was the terrible compassion in Hotch's eyes, looking at Jimmy and his son, telling him to be a dad and to say the right thing. Allowing Jimmy to be there for his son's final moments instead of hauling him off right away to lock-up.
You deserve to be happy.
Thanks for telling Hotch that, Rossi. Yes, we know Hotch knows that. But sometimes that reminder is a good thing to hear. Maybe Hotch's bike date will turn into something, maybe not. But he's allowed to let go of the past and move on. He'll always still be a father. And moving on doesn't mean forgetting, just... moving on. Going with the healthier way of life instead of constant repression that could lead to a breaking point down the road.
