I was serious. Some wackjob, convinced by Nancy Grace that Casey is actually guilty, regardless of what the justice system says, is going to kill her. (Or possibly the defense attorney, or even the prosecuting attorney. Who knows with crazy people?) This really is bigger than OJ, and it's more volatile. It's been promoted, hyped, trumpeted for 3 years. A child died, and thanks to Nancy Grace, there's no doubt in anyone's mind (except the jury that DECIDED the case) that Casey is guilty.
When OJ was tried for killing his wife, he undoubtedly had sympathizers; wife beaters, misogynists, sports fans, entire sections of the country who either couldn't believe their 'hero' had done something so heinous, or thought she 'deserved it'. The largest groups of people who were outraged were women (Not exactly the violent revenge type) followed by racist men.
While racists are not known for stability, a big chunk of them are middle class whites- not the type to pick up a rope these days and hang a black man for not getting found guilty. (KKK was chock full of cowards- hence the hoods.)
Read that article again. There's not a single group of people who will support Casey now, except for the few who trust our justice system. And frankly, that's a pretty small group, thanks to the number of people who've recently been found innocent of crimes for which they've spent decades in jail. The outrage over a child is much higher, and the uneducated and unbalanced and inherently violent are on the dangerous side of this equation.
Now you have everyone united in outrage over the loss of a child, and the more uneducated, the more likely to do something terrible, and the more likely to buy into Grace's hype and inflammatory rhetoric in the first place.
Casey is sitting on a powder keg. And frankly, if I were her, I'd sue HLN and Nancy Grace for enough to go into hiding.
Not that I think Casey's bright enough to do that. Some of her actions in this have NOT been brilliant.
And for everyone who might think I am defending her- I'm defending the justice system. It's all we have. I frankly have no idea whether she's getting away with murder or not. And neither do you. The people in the best position to decide that have already said she's innocent. If they're right, then we need to look elsewhere. If it's not accidental death, then there's a murderer out there. If they're wrong, and Casey is that murderer, then the system has failed. Again. Have a better idea? Propose it. But taking action against Casey because of Grace is simply concluding/confirming trial by media. Frankly, I don't ever want to be tried in that court.
