Overall this year's Sakuracon was, in a nutshell, 'Stressfully Fun'.
Me and a couple of friends stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel. Not exactly the best hotel we've stayed in but we did get a room with cozy sheets for us to sleep under. We got our badges before con-time and started prepping up for artist's alley the following day.
Friday day was alright, sold a couple of prints even though it was a slow day. It rained and snowed for a little bit. I sat with my long-time artist alley partner Mala, who won the Sakuracon mascot contest 2 years in a row before yielding to another artist this year. She made a lot of commissions and her boyfriend Nick was a big help in helping with sales. I mostly sketched, printed business cards and ran errands back and forth while signing and rolling my prints up for people. I rarely do commissions on-site nowadays since I love to take my time when I sketch.
Saturday day got better. The one thing that made my day all throughout con-time was meeting a very interesting person from a specific video game company. I won't disclose any information yet but we'll see how my luck turns out. Same old stuff I did since yesterday but the crowd got more massive as the day progressed. I took pictures of cosplayers and bought stuff from the dealer's room as Nick filled in for me. I forgot to mention that I brought my Heelys with me hahaha, so I was rolling all over the artist's alley when I got bored.
Last day,
rakugaking and
zombotto showed up and we hanged around Seattle for a bit. Gave them some 'special' prints and we dined away at the Pike Place food court and went to Zanadu comic book shop. I messed up a bit and gave a couple of wrong prints to them so I still have to send the right ones after I get some proper packaging.
After the con I went to Mala's house, met her parents and dined an array of asian dishes. Dishes like sticky rice, balut and catfish soup. Very appetizing stuff I tell you :D After a lot of life story conversations we headed out and slept and Nick's place. Nick's mom has this bad ass, full-sized Spiderman statue complete with Spiderman bling and he kept me company all throughout the night. We brawled a bit with SSBB the next day and cleaned Nick's bathroom. I love cleaning dirty stuff, its a very zen moment when you see everything sparkling and tidy.
Anyway I'll leave you off with pictures, I got a slight fever today and I hope it doesn't get worse.
