This is what I hope to be the first post in a series. We'll see how ambitious I get.
Two images + shiny text under cut.
The Griffin
M.O.M classification: XXXX
(Dangerous/requires specialist knowledge/skilled wizard may handle.)
Head detail of a female Griffin:
The Griffin originated from Greece and has the front legs and head similar to a giant eagle, and the body and hind legs of a lion. The colouring varies from a deep brown to cream, and the rarer bright gold.
The male is most recognizable by their brighter plumage, and a crest of golden-brown feathers around the head. The females are usually darker and sleeker. They also lack the more decorative feathers the males possess. Griffins roost in high places and are most often seen by Muggles when flying. They eat a diet consisting of raw meat, fish, berries and roots.
In the early 1600’s during the first Goblin rebellions, Griffins became popular for wealthy wizard families to import into Britain. They were purchased by wizards hopeful to guard their fortunes during the first Goblin riots.
This was a failed venture, as Griffins are very hard to befriend and train. Very few wizards were successful, and when the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy Law was created in 1692, Griffins lost their popularity.
Full body illustration of a male Griffin:
There are currently thirty-three known wild Griffins living in Great Britain, and seven officially employed. They are illegal to own without a proper license granted by the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.
As of 1912, Griffins are on the list of Protected Magical Species (P.M.S.). Their eggs are made of a natural magical substance that resembles agate. Griffin eggs are highly desirable on the black market, and shards are often illegally purchased and used in jewellery.

This is basically fanfic and fanart of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I've made sure not to stray too far from the descriptions JKR wrote.
I've very much a beginner at drawing animals, so the Griffin gave me a lot of trouble. Tomorrow sometime, I'm going to write a long post on the process of this, and all the things I wanted to do with it, but didn't. (As well as post WIP sketches and the like)
Big thanks to
noreen_mcalba,
straywillowisp and
ryokophoenix, who let me ramble at them and spam their email during the process of creating this. :D
Also, the two images were painted with wateroclour, acrylic and a bit of colour pencil.
P.S. I'm planning to do Merpeople next. I'm very excited. Yay!
