Since I last posted, I've taken on a Senior User Experience Designer role at a great little company called CONTOUR
http://contour.com/ . They make portable high-def cameras for use on bicycles, skiing, and other outdoor activities. It's a great camera, tiny, very rugged, and I am in charge of building out their web presence for community videos.
One of the cooler things we've done is the "March Radness" bracket contest pitching skiers vs. snowboarders -
http://contour.com/contests/march-radness/bracket This contest has really generated a lot of interest, and a great deal of trash-talking in the comment fields. I have to say, some of the videos in this contest are pretty spectacular.
It's a very small company, about 60 people total, and growing. We develop the hardware in our offices in Seattle (I'm right down by the Space Needle, which is exciting all on its own). I've even been pitching in with some of the hardware bits - recently I helped paint and assemble a top-secret prototype. Never thought I'd see myself using my model skills on the job again.
All in all it's been a rewarding experience and I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
