"Some people would rather be happy than free."
Is there a way to have both?
Being happy entails ignorance of the evil in the world. It entails simple childlike joys, innocence, seeing only the best in others.
But being free does not necessarily make one jaded. One who is free sees all that is the world, the good and the bad. Their naive illusions are shattered, and it is easy to lose yourself. It doesn't have to be this way.
Could you be both?
Could you shed your self-induced ignorance and fly? Could you keep faith in human goodness at the most primal of levels as you watch the persecution and twisted justifications in the world? Are you ready?
Will you ever be ready? It is not an easy path.
Ha. I'm waxing poetic. I must be running low. Where did I leave the cocoa?
Am I happy? Am I free?
The answers are yes, and maybe someday.
Does it matter? I'll find my way if I look.
