During lunch today at In-N-Out Burger, I had a craving for root beer. But when I brought my cup to the self-serve fountain drink dispenser, I was disappointed to find that all they had was Barq's. I really dislike Barq's... its high carbonation and metallic bitter taste makes me feel like someone dropped a 9-volt battery into my soda, or mistakenly diluted it with mineral water.
But I really wanted root beer, and I was willing to experiment to still try and scratch that itch. So this is what ensued:
Regular Size Barq's Root Beer (with ice)
+ 4 packets of sugar
+ 5 single-serve portions of half-and-half
= Poor Man's Root Beer Float.
It wasn't by any means comparable to a real root beer float... it was more like halfway to being one of those watery pre-bottled A&W Root Beer Float beverages that you sometimes find in convenience stores... but at least it didn't taste like Barq's anymore! I was pleased.
