[The audio begins with a hum.]

It seems many of my books are missing from their shelves.

If you've removed a book from the library and have no need of it, please return it at once. If you still require its information, at least make note of its location and and condition here.

Thank you.

Why read books when you already know how they end?

[This is Bartimaeus being a smarmy bastard.]

If it's stories you seek, we have none. However, our library holds the finest encyclopedias you could imagine, and the quest for knowledge has no true ending.

I can. Have you tried being summoned?

Not your brand of summoning, I am sure. Do you care to elaborate?

I doubt you could properly grasp the concept without experiencing it yourself, but I will try for your sake.

[Look at how NICE he's being.]

Imagine being cocooned in your favourite blanket, wearing whatever gaudy excuse for bunny slippers that you prefer, with a mug of cocoa and your favourite book. You might think to yourself that this is the best place in the world and the best moment in your life.

Well, off in another dimension, someone disagrees. And that someone just drew up a pentacle and said a few words of mystic mumbo-jumbo.

Suddenly, you're in his world, stripped everything warm and comfortable you had, forced to do his bidding in a world that makes you feel like you're walking on broken glass every step of the way, but you can't find shoes to protect you and you can't leave until this guy decides to send you back to that comfortable place.

That is summoning, in as few brain-shattering words as I could employ.

Hmm.

[Rem's just... taking this all in. It's quite the account.]

That sounds not entirely dissimilar to what our fair Lord has done. Without, of course, the rabbit slippers or the broken glass.

[He should hope.]

The broken glass is still a part of it, so I'd hardly call him a 'fair' anything.
