I’m not Tony Stark.  I really wish I was, because not only would I have a kick-ass robot suit and a chest flashlight and be BFF with Captain America (except for when we disagreed about civil rights that one time), I would have a handy assistant to tell me stuff that I missed.

Like that the cover copy of Daemon’s Mark, the new Nocturne City novel, is not, in fact, the right copy.  It’s the copy for Witch Craft.

So, let’s examine this, shall we?

I spoke with my editor about this a few weeks ago, shortly after release, when I began getting messages from readers that cover copy was, shall we say, massively incorrect.  It was copy for one of my books.  Just not this book.  I emailed Editor Rose, but held off on posting until we had answers.

Here’s the short version: There are roughly 55,000 steps to getting a book from an MS I turn in to finished product, and somewhere along the way, somebody hit copy/paste a little too eagerly, other people approved the final cover a little too eagerly, and thus, the Wrong Copy went to press.

Now, I don’t blame St. Martin’s, really.  It was a snafu, sure, but shit happens.  I’ve heard of authors who’ve gotten the wrong cover art, had pages missing from their books, chapters bound and printed out of order-in short, WAY worse than what happened here.  You shouldn’t blame the publisher either-hell, you might as well blame me, since I get ARCs of the book and I didn’t flip the damn thing over to check the copy in any sort of timely fashion.

So here’s the deal: The cover copy is going to be fixed shortly, as Daemon’s Mark is already going back to press for a second printing (yaaaaay), but the first edition will remain the Wrong Copy for eternity.  Which means if you got one, hold on to it.  It’ll be rare in no time.

On another note, any redheads out there want to be my assistant?  I can offer no money but 100% fewer robot drone attacks than Tony Stark…
