Nibbled to death by space weasels

Just a quick hit today, as I’m running out the door to hit up a curtain sale with my mom.  Why did I buy a house with so many freakin’ windows?

If you were curious about the glamorous working week in the life of a writer, take a gander at my expanded, weekly to-do list:

  • Keep up wordcounts on Iron Codex II.
  • Edit The Curse of Four and send back to editor
  • At least start the Curse of Four chapbook for same
  • Address first pass page proofs of The Iron Thorn
  • Finish the manuscript I’m reading for a cover quote (it’s excellent, I’m just easily distracted.)
  • Help one of my writer friends finalize her query letter for her awesome YA manuscript

It came up on Twitter last night that some people were confused about my title change for the YA: for a long time it was The Witch’s Alphabet, and then Delacorte and the PTB decided that wasn’t quite the right title, so we went through about 20 others, and landed on The Iron Thorn (which was my idea.  Mine mine mine!  I’m always chuffed when I can pick new titles for stuff.)

So-it’s The Iron Thorn, volume one of The Iron Codex, and the book is actually up for preorder now on all fine retailer sites.

Aaaaand…I got book jackets in the mail!  They’re not finalized, so I’m not going to share them or the flap copy just yet, but they’re GORGEOUS.  I held them in my hands and everything and they’re really just phenomenally nice-looking book dressing.

Most likely, when I have the final version, I will give one of these away.

And to close, here’s a QOTD from my exceedingly, shall we say, colorful* neighbors, who live across the street-I am literally on the right side of the wrong side of the tracks here in Stately Wayne Manor, and it’s summer, so open windows bring tidbits such as this:

Alcoholic Patriarch to slightly less alcoholic Other Male Relative: “I’m going to eat lunch first, so I’ll be full!  Then I’m gonna beat ya!”

With those stirring words, I’m gone baby gone.

*I thought both “po’ white trash” and “should be on an episode of Intervention” were both too harsh.
