Run for the shadows

The weekend was full of Events.

I went yardsaling with the CapHill crew (Cherie, Synde, Suezie and Ellen), and found nothing. There were a few things--a purple velvet armchair, a vintage Polaroid slide camera, and an antique ginger jar--that I wanted but nothing I could convince myself to buy. Plus, it was far too early and a small boy dressed as a monkey kept following us around, trying to get us to come to his scout troop's sale.

No, I'm not joking. He looked like the Howler Monkey of Hades. His friend was dressed as a pirate.

That afternoon, Cherie and I went over to Redmond to catch the Supernatural Summer tour of four YA fantasy author passing through town. Among them was Aprilynne Pike, whom I've known (via the internet) longer than almost any of my "book writing" friends. I also met fellow Tenner Kimberly Derting in line (she recognized me even without my Kicky Steampunk Hat) and that was great. Kimberly's got an awesome write-up of the event here.

Some of you have asked if I've had any adventures on Ambien (I started it a few days ago for my raging insomnia) and I can say the only side effect for me, personally, is how frakkin' well the stuff works. I fall asleep and I stay asleep, and so far I haven't driven anywhere or sleep-dialed anyone. Yet.

I'm just glad it works, because normally I have a crazy resistance to sedatives of any kind--just as my old orthodontist how chatty I was while he was doing oral surgery.

Nice even at Bitten By Books over the week-end, and I've chosen a winner for the "Ask Jack" questions, who'll get a copy of Street Magic and an ARC of Witch Craft (this is the last Witch Craft ARC I'll be giving away, sadly. The rest are earmarked for srs bizness.)

And that winner is...

Jaqueline

Drop me an email with your contact info and I'll pop these in the mail!

I'm working on the copyedit/content edit (Part 2: Electric Boogaloo) , so blogging may be a bit sparse until I mail that back on the 17th. In the mean time, here's a few more reviews for both Street Magic and Black and White (in case you weren't convinced they're both awesome.)

Waiting for Fairies reviews Black & White.

University City Review does the same.

Dear Author gives Street Magic a B.

And with that, I need to walk to the post office and go ensconse myself at Ye Olde Snobbishe Coffee Shoppe to work on these copyedits. Peace out.
