Murphy's Law

-"Anything that can go wrong, will. And it will do so at the worst possible moment, in the worst possible way."

This morning, it felt like one of THOSE days. The kind of day that gives you that bad feeling in the pit of your stomach. Maybe it was the fact that I knew that I had a Government exam today. Maybe it was that I had to take my car in to get fixed. Or maybe it was that I had an English paper to finish.

The day goes along as usual until about 12:30, when I go to my car to drive it to the dealer. It had been having transmission problems since right after I dropped Matt off at Radford, so I knew that I had to be careful.

I manage to get the car offcampus and onto the highway, and then the car starts losing speed. The ominous 'Check Engine' light finally pops on. I can no longer accelerate. I pull over to the side of the road while I still can, and call AAA.

The next two hours were the longest of my life. Mostly because my exam started during the last part of those hours.

That's right. It took TWO FUCKING HOURS to get a tow truck. Why? Neither I nor my mother are entirely sure; but here's what we do know. Whilst discussing where I was, a miscommunication was made. Instead of '460 East' and my cell phone number, the tow truck company recieved information about a street on campus and some retiree's number. I waited about an hour and a half (that's how long it took them last time to show up for a jump to my engine six months ago) before calling them back and finding out that the wrong information had been given.

AAA is currently investigating to see if I'm at fault for that, or if one of the three people I talked to that day is, because my mother filed a complaint.

Shortly after figuring out that the wrong information had been given, guess what pulls in behind me? A police car. Now, I knew I'd done nothing wrong, but I was still nervous- I've never had to deal with the police in any respect before.

He was kind and understanding (thank God), and helped speed up the process of getting me out of there. Half an hour later, the truck finally shows up.

After ten minutes, I'm finally at the dealership. I go to the service department with all the important papers about my car, and then they tell me.

My car is no longer under warranty. Because the odometer was 'altered'.

I asked Mom what Pat (my step-father) what he thought, but she couldn't get ahold of him, instead trying to deal with the woman herself via my phone.

What really happened to my car: While trying to register it in Virginia, some dummy wrote down that WE had messed with the odometer, when it had actually broken and been fixed. So Mom now has to take off work tomorrow an argue at the DMV. Not a task I envy.

When I finally got back to campus, I checked my watch. 4:10. The whole fiasco had taken THREE hours. And I had completely missed my Government exam. (I've E-mailed him, I can take it tomorrow or Friday- there's one plus)

Once I got to my dorm room, I got a call from Mom, congratulating me on 'showing maturity' for dealing with AAA, the police (for the first time), the towing company (for the first time), and the car dealer (again, first time). I then asked what Pat thought of this whole incident. That's when I found out why Pat had been unavailable for comment.

He was at the hospital. With my step-sister.

It turns out that my step-sister may have diabetes. That makes two (out of four) step-sibilings I have with the disease.

Kind of puts my day in perspective.

In short, today sucks. And tomorrow doesn't look so bright either.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have an English paper to write.

car, wtf, bad day, rizzuto
