My UF essay

“You're alive. Do something. The directive in life, the moral imperative was so uncomplicated. It could be expressed in single words, not complete sentences. It sounded like this: Look. Listen. Choose. Act.” (Barbara Hall, A Summons to New Orleans, 2000) This quote from Barbara Hall easily sums up how I believe people should live, to me, life isn’t as hard as some people make it seem. We must live how we’ve been shown, until we can live lives of our own and my life has been shown many things that I could bring to the University of Florida. My education, friends, and personal experiences have all affected who I have become as I’ve aged.
I have always been apart of higher advanced programs in school, in elementary and middle school I was in the gifted program, then in high school(freshman and sophomore year) I joined the pre-International Baccalaureate program and later went into the full International Baccalaureate program in my junior and senior year. Due to the advanced learning programs, I have always been surrounded by intelligence and have fostered many ideas and philosophies on my own life as well as life in general. While on campus I would make the best grade I could in class. Since I have gone through so much to have a higher education, I am used to dealing with obstacles, thus would not allow them to prevent me from graduating; for I would not want to have my years of learning go to waste.
The friends that I have made along the way have contributed greatly to my personality. Though we may not always share the same ideals on topics, we have always had a strong bond of loyalty, friendship, and trust. Though I dare not say I have been shaped by my friends, their thoughts, actions, and words have guided me to becoming a better person. Through both their right and wrong decisions in their lives, I have seen how I wish to live my life. This will lead me to make the correct decisions on and off campus for both my education and my life.
Also, my friends have created the personal experiences which have always caused changes in my life. By word of mouth or internet, I have found books, speeches, movies and music that have made me who I am. Books such as Mary Shelly’s “Frankenstein”, movies like Charlie Chaplin’s “The Great dictator” showed me many ideas of life and goodness within men and because of this, my campus community life would be filled with discussions with other students about life, the hearts of man, war, and other worldly topics.
In conclusion, I believe that I would make a great candidate for the University of Florida because of my friendships, my higher education, and personal experiences; for they would all contribute to campus life and my educational pursuits.
