first off, it was simply an analogy, not a linking of the two. And second, are you saying that all of the lives lost in the name of god during the crusades were warranted? Or the slaughter of millions of Jews during the Holocaust?
First of all, an analogy suggests that there is, at least, a similarity between the two.
A la dictionary.com -
"a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based: the analogy between the heart and a pump.
similarity or comparability: I see no analogy between your problem and mine."
Second, I would again like to present the use of the word unwarrented. Though the crusades were done in the name of God, I must stress that divine will and man's will are often two very different things. I would also like to point out that the Holocaust, while certainly tragic, is irrelevant to this issue. Nazi Germany pursued the genocide against the Jews because of their treatment in World War One, their extremely poor economic conditions, and Hitler's regime. Not all of Germany was in support of Hitler, and not all of Germany is anti-semetic. To think in such black and white terms is clearly fallacy.
honestly, whatever. it's pointless to argue it at this point. nothing either of us says is going to make an impact.
However, at the risk of begrudging the point for clarification about the Holocaust, Hitler truly believed he was exterminating the Jews in the name of God and Jesus.
Who said Hitler was right? What he believed and what truly was were obviously two different things. This is example is like the Crusades, if only more tragic - the will of God is not the same as the will of man. That is, of course, unless you are suggesting Hitler shared a divine connection with God.
And, before I forget, though this coversation may seem minor by convention or appearance, let me present to you two ideas:
First, the internet is a nearly infinite space, where many types of peoples, ideas, and information can be found, researched, or otherwise stumbled upon. Would you suggest different? If someone wants to find something on the internet - and it exists - they will.
Second, and I feel this is the more important point of the two - everyone who participates actively in this coversation will have an idea placed in their head. Good, bad, or indifferent, the free-flowing exchange of ideas is happening to you, me, and many other people as we speak. While we may not agree on certain points you cannot argue that a possibility has been presented. What you do with it is completely up to you, but it is not, in any way unjustified or irrelevant.
But I believe it was hard for GWB to see, in advance, just how much of a waste this war in Iraq would end up becoming. And once we got in, it was nearly impossible to pull out again without the various terrorist organizations throughout the world rejoicing and claiming victory, and recruiting thousands of new and emboldened jihadists.
I have to say, though, it's time Bush stepped up and told the world his PLAN for Iraq. Any plan at all would be better than what we have right now.
If you don't mind me saying so, I think that's part of the problem. First, we were looking for WMDs. Then, we had to take Saddam out of power. Then it was time to democratize Iraq, as though it has been a complete after-thought. As it turns out, the US presence is actually causing an increase in Islamic-Fundamentalism, the very force that they are trying to combat. If we stay in Iraq, we face an ever-prolonged war that shows little to no signs of slowing. The increase in anti-US sentiment is a testament to that. However, if we go, we risk, as you have stated, terrorists throughout the world rejoicing and claiming victory

After thinking all of this through, I have an idea on how we could help solve the issues of the Middle East. First, we would need a healthy dose of understanding for all involved parties. Terrorists, Iraqis, Israelites, and soldiers are all human beings. First, we would have to leave Iraq. It is only serving as a catalyst to the already volatile situation. To ensure that this wouldn't end in complete anarchy, we could install a monarchy of some sort; one that rang of the previous system, minus the genocide. It is fairly obvious that the three political/religious factions don't get along, so perhaps dividing Iraq into 3 would be the best solution; the tribes would be able to keep lands that were traditionally recognized as their (or at least occupied by them for the last, say, 50 years), and all the excess land would be distributed by current population and potential for population growth. We would have to perpetuate their previous ways of life, allow their economy to recover, and then begin diplomatic efforts at democratization
( ... )
You know you're cool when you need not one, but TWO different responses to a single comment to fit everything you are saying. At least I editted the WALL of text that was my last entry...seriously even I had trouble reading it.

You don't have to support the president to follow Jesus.
(Oh, and I don't G.W. sacrificing himself for anyone...just a thought.)
