Chapter four
“Is something wrong?” Jaejoong asks, looking concerned.
“Yeah, Changmin wants me to go to his office.”
“I bet he will give you another deadly task,” Jaejoong shrugs, “I’ll help you this time. Don’t worry.”
“No, better not,” Junsu clearly remembers when Jaejoong helps him finish Changmin’s assignment and he next day, Changmin scolded him because he knew Junsu didn’t finish it on his own. Changmin said he hates it so much when he gives a task to someone and the person tries to ask others for help. It’s called cheating, contamination of pure hard work. It’s disgusting. I will never read this shit. Oh, did I just tell you that your work is SHIT?, Changmin once shouted in front of the whole office staff, making Junsu cringe in embarrassment.
He doesn’t want to feel that way again…
“Good luck,” Jaejoong throws a sympathetic smile at him.
Junsu stands up from his chair and walks to Changmin’s office. At first, he feels fine. But when he reaches Changmin’s office door, his legs begin to tremble. He can feel the aura of death! Okay, calm down, Junsu. It’s not a big deal. So far, you have done your job well.
Junsu inhales and exhales, trying to calm himself down, and then he opens the door. Bloody hell, Changmin’s office is really big! It’s bigger and wider and more luxurious and cleaner than his apartment! Oh God, he really wants to live in here with Yoochun. They can have sex everywhere!
He walks, looking at the shelf filled with books, very thick books! And wait… is that Dorland’s Illustrated Medical Dictionary? Since when did Changmin become interested in medicine?
He also sees lots of pictures; with expensive frames protect them. There’s a picture of Changmin in his office (Junsu swears, he doesn’t smile at all in the picture and he looks like a fierce lion), Changmin with the chairman at the golf tournament…
And Changmin when he graduated from college.
Junsu is surprised.
In the picture, Changmin looks so young and happy. He smile so widely at the camera with his childish grin, eyes crinkling cutely, with both his hands raised, showing the world that he finally got his degree. Damn, he looks so cute and handsome. OH GOD, Junsu! Are you lusting your own boss?!
“What are you looking at?”
Junsu is surprised to hear Changmin’s voice. He turns his head and founds Changmin on his chair, checking papers, checking his work.
“Oh.. Em.. nothing, I’m just curious about the Dorland’s Medical Dictionary.”
“In what aspect?” Changmin asks him, this time Changmin is looking at him.
“In… In…,” Junsu thinks hard, his palm is sweating now. God, he’s so nervous!
“I’m curious with the thickness of the book! Yes, it looks so thick and I think I can kill someone with that book. Hahaha…” Junsu, you doofus….
Changmin stares at Junsu for a while, blinks his eyes and finally his gaze goes back to the papers.
“Yeah, it’s so thick but it’s my facorite book so far.”
No wonder he becomes a crazy man, liking a ‘killer’ book like that, Junsu says in his mind.
“Next week, you have to go with me to Jeju Island.”
“Wha-what?” Junsu nearly chokes. Changmin… Changmin just asked him to go to Jeju Island?
“Yes, we are going to have our first meeting with Grays Company. You know that company, right?”
Junsu nods frantically, Of course he knows, Changmin always orders him to do research related to Grays Company. Changmin never told him many details about Grays Company, but he gets to learn about it, through his tasks. As far as he knows, Grays Company is one of the biggest companies in South Korea. They have lots of hot-selling items such as food, drinks, kitchen furniteure, even cosmetics. In short, Grays Company is a highly-successful one.
“Next week, we will discuss a big project with Grays Company. And when I say big, well… it’s really really big. And it’s a secret. A big big secret.
“O.. okay,” says Junsu. Suddenly, he feels that he’s James Bond who gets a big mission.
Changmin exhales, and takes off his glasses (Junsu just realized that Changmin wears glasses), and stares at Junsu.
“So, Junsu, that’s why I don’t want you to ask Jaejoong’s or anybody’s help in finishing your tasks. I guess now you know why?”
Junsu already has the answer but he’s not so sure…
So… Changmin gives him lots of work because of this? For this big project? For this big secret project? But why did Changmin only ask him and why him? He is just an ordinary employee, and also stupid (that’s why Changmin always says).
“Because I trust you.”
Changmin’s words make Junsu’s heart beats hard.
“Trust… me?” Junsu can’t believe it. Changmin never said that before. He never said nice words with a calm and sweet voice like that.
“You are honest and diligent. Your work is amazing. I found your passion in your work and I like it.”
Junsu’s mind goes blank.
Is this Changmin? The devil Changmin with his riding crop, with his yells, harsg words… where’s Lord Voldemin?! His words become so gentle and sweet and honest.
“But… but why me?” Junsu is still so confused at the moment.
“Because you’re the only employee here that can work under pressure and yet produce excellent work. That’s why I only give assignments about Grays Company to you.”
So this is the reason? This is the only fuckin’ reason for Changmin’s harsh treatment of him?
“There will be two representatives from each department. The two of us will be the delegates from the marketing department. Keep learning about Grays Company, review all your past assignment and make the best presentation for the meeting next week. I don’t want to get disappointed,” Changmin stops staring at him, his eyes back to the papers.
“You can go.”
Junsu just realized that he is Changmin’s best employee; he is the most trusted employee by Changmin! Five years of working in this company, with Changmin as his boss, and he just realizes it. He just realizes that… that… THAY HE IS GOING TO GET A PROMOTION SOON? And not only an ordinary promotion, but HE’S GOING TO GET AN MAZING DAEBAK PROMOTION?! Who knows?
Junsu smiles brightly.
“Okay, I’ll do my best for you! Thay you, Sir!” Junsu bows nearly 90 degree and stomps out from Changmin’s office with a bright face.
Wait.
Junsu stops.
He can’t show his happy face to Jaejoong. If he does, Jaejoong will know. Okay Junsu, you are the best actor in theatre class, remember? On elementary school, you took a role as a… a tree.. but that’s the best acting you’ve ever done! Your parents praised you, right? (except for his twin brother, Junsu, who was laughing at him all day).
So, Junsu clears his throat and make a sad face. When he’s ready, he walks to his cubicle at the end of the corridor. Upon entering his cubicle, Junsu is surprised to see Yoochun sitting inside.
What…
What is he doing here?
Junsu can see everyone stare at Yoochun and then at him, and then back to Yoochun again. Maybe they can’t believe that an ugly fat person like him has a perfect person like that. Yeah, look at that. His handsome boyfriend is wearing a brown coat that goes perfectly well with his jeans.
What is Yoochun doing here?
Yoochun is sitting on his chair inside the cubicle, checking his computer. What is he looking for?
When Yoochun sees Junsu, Yoochun calls his name, then walks towards Junsu and hugs him. Everyone gasps. Junsu is so confused and he can see Jaejoong’s annoyed face.
“Junsu baby! I have good news for you and I can’t wait to tell you so I come here!”
“Wha…what?”
Yoochun releases Junsu from his (deadly) hug and smiles. Oh God, he looks so hot! His face looks sooo happy. Well, he IS always happy when he sees Junsu, but now he looks sooo happy and it makes him looks sooo handsome.
“Guess what? I met Alex Pettyfer!”
Junsu blinks one-tow times and he realizes that he doesn’t know who Alex Pettyfer is…
“Who?” Junsu asks.
“You don’t know him?” Yoochun clicks his tongue in disappointment, “Oh, Junsu! You have to watch entertainment on TV more often! He’s an actor from England! He’s hot and OH GOD he’s awesome, Junsu! He even hugged me and I had a change to take a picture with him! Look!”
…okay…
Now, Yoochun acts like a totally aegyo fan girl…
Yoochun fishes out his phone from his pocket and shows the picture to Junsu. He can see Yoochun and the actor-Alexandro whatever-on the monitor’s phone.
“O… okay, that’s…,” Junsu tries to show his excitement, although he doesn’t, “Awesome!”
“He’s awesome, right? Oh God, I shook his hands and… Junsu! I’m so happy!” Yoochun hugs him again. People are gasping again, this time a couple of girls are screaming.
“Hey, stop doing that thing in the office,” suddenly Jaejoong snaps and grabs Junsu’s hand, releasing Junsu from Yoochun’s hug.
“Jaejoong! What the-“
“Jaejoong?” Yoochun says, “Are you Jaejoong? Junsu talks about you a lot.”
“Yeah, I am Jaejoong. So what?” Jaejoong snorts. He is so annoyed.
“Wow, you are more handsome that Junsu’s description about you!” Yoochun is obliviously exited, “I’m Yoochun.”
“I already know you,” Jaejoong snarls.
“Oh, I’m quite famous then,” Yoochun smiles widely, no hint of anger after being ignored by Jaejoong.
“Um… Yoochun, why don’t we talk outside the office? Oh, I know, you can go to the cafeteria and I’ll meet you there in five minutes. Sounds good?” Junsu makes a suggestion. He can feel Jaejoong’s hatred towards Yoochun and he doesn’t want anything bad to happen.
“No, better I say it here right now because I have a surprise for you,” Yoochun faces Junsu and smiles.
“I have already reserved a table at the best restaurant in town! And the best part is I’ll treat you!”
Junsu doesn’t know how to react.
Happy? Of course! Yoochun has never asked him for dinner! And now, he is not only asking him to go to McDonalds but to have dinner at the nest restaurant on town! But… but why tonight? Why now when Jaejoong has already asked him first for dinner?
“But… but,” Junsu’s eyes find Jaejoong and he feels guilty, “but Jaejoong has already asked me to go with him to dinner tonight,” Junsu finally says.
There’s dead silence and a very tense moment that follows.
“What?” an irritated voice finally comes from Yoochun.
“Um… yeah… I’m…,” Junsu scratches his head, doesn’t know what to say, “he asked me first so-“
“So you chose your frind over your boyfriend?” Yoochun voice is so cold and sarcastic. Gone is his nice and playful persona.
“No! It’s not like that!” Junsu quickly clarifies. “I just don’t want to disappoint him. I mean, he’s my best friend.”
“Yeah yeah~ I got it. Best friend is better than boyfriend. Okay, I get it.”
“Yo… Yoochun-ah, please don’t be mad at me.”
“No, it’s okay. I can cancel the reservation,” Yoochun fishes out his phone from his coat and readies to dial the number.
Oh no, Yoochun is angry. He’s mad.
Oh no what should he do? He has to choose between Jaejoong and Yoochun. Oh for a God’s sake, choosing between two dinner offers is really so difficult and confusing.
“Okay! Okay, I’ll go to dinner with you tonight,” Juns finally makes a decision to for with Yoochun. Oh God, he doesn’t want to see Jaejoong’s disappointed face right now.
“Good!” Yoochun’s voice becomes cheerful again, “meet me at Hongdae street 08.00 PM, okay? Don’t be late, darling!”
“Hm… yeah, okay,” Junsu is smiling, though it’s not as wide as usual.
“I have some business to do so I’ll leave first. Bye Junsu,” Yoochun kisses Junsu’s forehead and leaves.
Okay, now it’s just him and Jaejoong…
“I can’t believe it,” Jaejoong sneers.
“Jaejoong, I’m sorry… he is in a good mood today and I don’t want to ruin it,” Junsu says in a low voice. He really feels sorry…
“But I have asked you first, Junsu!”
“I know but I don’t want Yoochun to become angry with me!”
“So it’s not a problem if I am the one angry at you?”
“No, of course not!” Junsu quickly answers, “I just…,” Junsu really wants to cry now. He doesn’t think that Yoochun is more important than Jaejoong. Jaejoong is also an important person in his life and he loves Jaejoong too. He chooses to cancel Jaejoong’s offer because he thinks that Jaejoong will understand him more.
“Whatever. I am going to go with you and Yoochun to dinner tonight.”
“Wha-what?” Junsu cannot believe what Jaejoong said. He… he will go to dinner with him and Yoochun tonight? He will ruin his date with Yoochun!
“I won’t accept rejection. Like it or not, I’ll go with you and your ‘lovely’ boyfriend,” Jaejoong officially ends their argument and returns to his cubicle.
Oh no, this is bad.
