Chapter Sixty Nine

Apr 10, 2008 20:59

Alex could hear voices, but couldn't quite make out what they were saying, just a few words here and there.

... call doctor...       ...baby alright....
She carefully opened her eyes finding herself in a strange room, and struggled to get up.
"Alex!  Are you okay?"
She squinted up and saw Riley and Jake standing over her with concerned looks on their faces.

"What happened?" she asked unsteadily.
"You fainted." replied Jake, "Are you okay?"
"Yes, I think so..."
"I'm going to call your doctor." stated Riley reaching for his phone and stepping outside.
"Here, drink this." said Jake pouring her a glass of water.
Alex took and sip and looked up at Jake.
"Jake?" she started,  "Remember those dreams I told you about?"
"Yes..."
"Well...  this is going to sound really weird...  when I had those dreams about you... well, I guess I thought that maybe they were a link to my past..."
"Yes?" prompted Jake.
"I thought that maybe I'd been here, or met you before..."
"Even though I didn't know you?"
"Yes, I guess that sounds stupid doesn't it?"

Jake shrugged, "I don't know."
"Well, remember that time you came home from work late and I got a fright when I woke up and saw you there because I'd been dreaming about you?"
"U-huh..."
"Tonight...  it was like another of my dreams!  I was at Black and that same song was playing and you were dressed exactly like that!"
"That's a bit of a coincidence!  Are you sure you're remembering things right?"
"Yes!  I'm certain, I've had the same dream lots of times!"
"Jake... do you think-"
"Okay Alex, I've spoken to your doctor." said Riley, re-entering the room, "And he said if you have a headache, are seeing flashing lights, or are breathless you should go straight to ER, otherwise, he's made an appointment for you to have a check-up tomorrow, and he's booked you in for an ultrasound as well, since you're nearly 12 weeks anyway.  So, how are you feeling now?"
"I'm fine Riley, really.  I think the noise and flashing light just got to me.  I just want to go home and sleep."
"Okay, let me get our coats."
"It's okay, you stay, it's your opening night.  I can get a taxi."
"I can take you home." said Jake.
"No, no!" insisted Riley.  "I'll take you home, that's what I employ a manager for!" heading for the door.
As he disappeared to get their coats, Alex turned to Jake.
"Jake!  We need to talk!" she whispered urgently.
"This isn't a good time, Riley's going to be back in a minute.  Give me a call tomorrow and we can sort something out."
"Okay." replied Alex, as Riley walked back in.
