Summary: Taemin has worked hard to maintain his grades, learn how to sing and dance, as well as participate in clubs and earn the attention of the officials of Shinhwa Boarding School. If you get in there, they ensure you make it anywhere. Super elite, Taemin can't help but aim for the stars. He's in, and that's the first step... But what about the other students? And what if they want more from Taemin than he's planned on giving? Can a star of the school make a book-bound underclassman pay attention to something besides studying? And when he does, what is their next move?

There was a peculiar sort of panic that set in after Minho received notice he would soon have a roommate. It was a little foolish, which was probably he internalized it so firmly. Of course he should have a roommate, nearly everyone in the school had one… And while his previous roommate had been excuse from the Academy due to a decline in work ethic and his overall scores, Minho probably should have expected to have the space filled a lot faster than the admissions office had managed.
The careful scrutiny that candidates were required to pass with flying colors may have had something to do with that, truth be told. SM Executives were brutally selective when sourcing talent for the school. On the one hand it kept the unworthy away, on the other hand a great deal of the population allowed their egos to swell.
There was a reason Minho’s circle of friends was only so big. He didn’t react well to the self-importance that most of the school population displayed. Academy students were everything that regular students wanted to be. They were rich, popular, smart, the center of attention, and doors opened to welcome them in nearly everywhere.
And if there was ever a danger that you would forget such a thing, most of the students were all too happy to remind you.
So Minho worried, just a little. (More than a little.) He internalized it, but his thoughts churned and roiled as he brooded about the whole thing. What would his roommate be like? If it was one of those empty-headed little twits, he’d probably turn Key on the boy…
No, first he’d set up an elaborate scenario that resulted in the new kid knocking Key into the ornamental fountain, preferably after the diva had decided to sport a brand new outfit. If Minho timed it just right, the twit could upset the Almighty Key on his own.
God help him then, no one else was dumb enough to try.
But then again, what if he was cute? If he was smart or quiet or a little bit shy? If he was a little worried about being away from home, but in an endearing, lost-puppy sort of way?
Of course, even gaining an adorable new roommate wasn’t exactly a painless process. Yes, Minho was somewhat annoyed that he’d had to deal with Jonghyun whining about it all day long (this wasn’t even Jjong’s room, not that he seemed to remember that fact). And yes, maybe it was a little bit (a tiny little bit) of an inconvenience to re-arrange everything. Without a roommate he’d let his belongings sprawl all across the space, and when the room assignment came through, there was a bit of a mad scramble to organize his belongings.
On the bright side, his room was nearly as clean as it had been when he first moved in. The beds were neatly made with fresh linens (Minhos’ bed now rumpled from Jjong throwing him back so the idiot could answer the door) and the books neatly organized on his shelf. His desk was also clean, the wastepaper basket emptied, the curtains on the window drawn back and the room cheerfully lit.
On the down side, he had no idea what to expect in the person he would spend a great deal of time with for the next few years. Would the kid whine for home from the start? Expect help on homework? Cross into Minho’s space, annoy his friends, go through Minho’s things or snore in his sleep?
There was no way to guess, so Minho didn’t bother. If he started listing all the things that could possibly be wrong with a complete stranger, he might wind up hating the kid before he even moved in. And that wasn’t fair, if anything a new student should have one person he could count on… And if that wasn’t his roommate, who could it be?
‘You’re doing it again.’ A voice that sounded suspiciously like Jjong’s snarked at him. ‘What happened to that whole relaxed façade?’
‘A good friend completely destroyed it, thanks.’ Minho thought bitterly, and then the thoughts evaporated as the kid stepped into view. ‘Oh….’
‘Oh my god, he’s adorable.’ Minho’s subconscious ‘helpfully’ admitted, follow by ‘This is the worst.’.
Yeah, it was definitely a lose/lose situation.
