"JARVIS, tell Tony he's in trouble!" Steve barked, standing in the living room and staring at the sight on the balcony pool before him.
The A.I. sounds amused but unconcerned. "Of course, Captain."
"Don't tell Tony, Tony heard just fine the same time." Tony grumbled from somewhere behind him in the living room. "What did Tony do?"
"Tony!" Steve snapped again. "Stop referring to yourself in the third person."
"You started it."
"TONY!"
"WHAT?!" Tony's response was somewhere between indignant and whining. "What did I do? Steve, I swear I was at work the whole day."
"Why are there three scantily clad women in your pool?"
"I don't want to answer that, do I?"
Steve turned away from the deck and gave him the patented Captain Disapproval stare. "Tony."
"What!?" Full-blown wheedling now, and a sulky look.
"There's a curvy blonde, a similarly curvy brunette, and a very lovely slim brunette, all splashing and giggling in your pool." Steve folded his arms over his chest, frowning. "Explain."
Tony looks thoughtful, then noticeably brightens. "Tall blonde, tall slim brunette, short busty brunette?"
Steve's jaw clenches. "Yes."
"Girls!" Tony looks gleeful as he darts past Steve and across the slides to stop at the water's edge. "You didn't call!"
Steve sighs at the sound of lashing and the gleeful shrieks of his boyfriend's name. "Tony!"
"Babes!" Tony's kneeling at the edge of the pool now, letting three soaking female embrace him, in spite of the fact that he's wearing one of his favorite vintage tees. "When the hell did you get here?"
Their replies are all joyous shouting and laughter. It just serves to make Steve angrier; he's silently fuming as he stalks up behind the billionaire and stares down at the four of them. The girls are gleeful, talking all at once in a way that makes no sense to Steve but is clearly understood by Tony. He’s answering questions left and right and hugging them all tightly, and none of them seem to care about the annoyed Super-Soldier that is hovering just a few feet away.
The most quiet of the girls is the slim brunette, her hair shorn short and angled over her face. She’s removed and strangely imposing in a black and silver once-piece suit. As he watches Steve notes that she moves with intent that reminds him of Natasha. She steps back first, her smile an elusive, knowing thing as she considers him. Steve frowns slightly, swallowing against the whisper of nerves that warns him she’s more dangerous than she seems. She flicks her eyes away, and then back Steve for a moment, shifting her balance slightly to obtain greater stability in the churning water. When Steve makes no additional move, she seems to shrug and then turns her attention back to Tony and the others.
The blonde is grinning as Tony praises her, but she stops and watches Steve inch closer. Her curves are wrapped in a red bikini that is daring and unapologetic, and Steve can’t help but blush as he glances away from her. She slides back away from Tony as well, as though attempting to avoid the splash from her cohort’s gleeful flailing. As Steve watches she draws herself up and gives him a curious look, a faint frown tugging at her mouth.
The shortest of the three is giggling as she throws her arms around Tony again, her dark curls plastered to her back and shoulders. There’s a faint hint of a tattoo on her shoulder blade, revealed by a sweep of Tony’s hand over her back and the movement of her hair. Steve frowns and shifts, trying to get a better view of her. She’s wearing a glittering blue-green one-piece, her feet kicked up as Tony hugs her and half-drags her out of the pool with the force of the embrace.
"Missed you, hellion." Tony's voice is affectionate when they peel apart, soft enough that Steve relaxes slightly. "You couldn't call to say you were in route?"
"Super-secret conference with the Fantastic Four, and then we were sort of in the neighborhood." The slim brunette shrugs as she cuts in, looking bored and amused all at once. "You know how she is."
"We've met, I think I remember." Tony jokes back, and the short one socks him gently in the arm with a sulky look. "Ouch! Take it easy, I'm an old man."
"You can't go soft, Uncle Tony, you train with Captain Stars-And-Stripes daily." The shortest points out, beaming up at Tony before glancing round him to Steve.
He wants to be annoyed at her and the nickname, but she's all twinkling eyes and a big smile and he's softening in spite of himself.
"Are you going to introduce us or do we have to make up more pet names?" The blonde demands, and Steve is surprised to see she's got quite a few tattoos… Then again, they seem to match the strange under-tone of an accent coloring her words.
"Sorry." Tony actually looks it, for a moment, before his wide grin is back. "Steve, come meet the girls."
"Sure." Steve gives a half-smile. "Can't wait."
"Wow you lie as badly as I do." The shortest grins wider. "Maybe you'll be a good influence on him?"
Tony cuffs her gently, ignoring her shriek. "Ignore this one for the moment, Steve, she's a brat. Silent but Deadly over here is Jesra, she'll get along with Tasha like a house on fire. The glorious Amazonian blonde is Adelina, we’ll deal with Super-Identities later. Girls, this is Steve Rogers, but you already know him as Captain America.”
“Nice to meet you both.” Steve returns politely, shaking their hands.
Jesra gives him a thoughtful look, but her handshake is quick and painless. “Captain.”
“Right back at you, handsome.” The blonde’s grin is infectious; Steve can’t help but like her already. Even if she is mildly intimidating and she holds his hand a moment longer than necessary, her eyes thoughtful.
Steve does his best to not look nervous, but he’s still not very good around women. “And the one we’re ignoring?”
“My niece, Laila Stark.” Tony frowns at her. “She’s trouble.”
“Runs in the family, like intelligence and insanity.” She shoots back, frowning at Tony, eyes gone wide and innocent. “Have you had your head examined lately, Uncle T?”
“Heathen.” Tony grumps, ruffling her hair as he stands. “Like I said, ignore that one Steve. Maybe she’ll go away if we withhold affection.”
“Doubtful.” Jesra murmurs, her tone cool as she glides away from them with fluid strokes. “I went to Japan in an effort to test the theory… You see how well it went.”
Steve glances between the four of them, then decided to pursue the conversation although somewhat timidly. “How did that go?”
“Nick recalled her.” Tony is smirking as he glances toward Jesra. “Hauled her ass back on the first priority ride from Japan. How long did you get to be there?”
“Collectively a month.” Jesra murmurs as she moves to the pool-edge and pulls herself out. “I guess I should be grateful they made it a month without me.”
Steve is momentarily distracted by the dagger in a black dive-sheath at her ankle. “I don’t understand… What did they do that you were dragged back to the country?”
“At that point, what was the use of it anyway?” Adelina grumbled, folding her arms over her chest and looking miffed. “We’d already done it.”
“Hell yeah we did.” Laila looks smug.
"This is what happens when you aren't stateside to drag your girl out of a bar before she gets herself in trouble." Tony scolds Jesra softly, ruffling at Laila’s hair.
"She had Ade, I thought it was fine." Jesra makes a face that borders on sulky, striding over to one of the deck chairs.
Steve gives her a bewildered look. "Ade?"
Tony is frowning at the blonde, who has the good grace to look sheepish.
Jesra looks surprised as she considers Steve, one hand extended toward a carefully folded towel on her chair. "The.. other girl.. involved... Nevermind."
Steve eyes the towel and is willing to bet that there’s a gun hidden in the folds. It reminds him again of Natasha, and he’s both nervous and excited to see the two interact.
“I definitely stand by the order that everyone should withhold affection from you, hellion.” Tony sighs as he reaches for more stacked towels, offering them to Adelina and Laila.
“That’s why I bring them with me, so I always have affection.” Laila confides in Steve, grinning as she holds a hand out to him. “Don’t worry about it. Pleased to meet you, Steve.”
“Pleasure is mine.” Steve shakes her hand. “How long are you three staying?”
“Well…” Laila hedges, glancing at her friends and then back to Tony. “About that…”
