What pieces of you are in your characters?

Máire is a canon character from a lovely little book and therefore already has a distinct voice and personality all her own. She has mannerisms, words of choice, and given the time period she hails from, a certain tone and attitude that reflect a more provincial Ireland. What I bring to the table is understanding these things about her and trying my best to do them justice. Should I bring her into a contemporary setting, I'll have to tweak that a bit and move her along in some sort of progression that still stays true to who she is.

I don't think that there is so much of me in her as there are things we have in common. Mothers of little boys, homemakers and keepers of youthful-acting husbands, believers in freedom and rights, women not afraid of being direct and not mincing words.
