The lesser seen vid-recs

Aug 22, 2008 00:36

+ Stargate Atlantis cancelled - well, mostly. As a series, it ends after this one. Which makes me sad, because SGA is probably the best fandom I don't actually participate in, but lurk like a lurking thing. I have loads of bits of fic to go with my one posted attempt, but it's such a dense, fast-moving fandom that anything I did get finished would already have been done 17 times over. There's just so much amazing fic, in all the colours of the rainbow, and I hope that doesn't stop when the canon does. :(

+ Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi got married. Pretty ♥

+ And now I'm going to do some vid-reccing, because normally I don't. My laptop is full of vids, but I'm terrible about leaving feedback on them, and reccing them around. This is probably mostly because I'm not a vidder and my reactions tend to be 'oooooooh, pretty'. But there were loads of vids being recced around from vividcon, so I've been taxing my broadband connection to get them. Here we go:

# Handlebars by flummery
Doctor Who; Ten
YES, omg, this. This is how I feel about Ten all of the time. Because Tennant's as cute as a button, and Ten's funny and all but he scares the bejesus out of me. Because he doesn't act scary, he's all whimsy and light until he's locking you in the heart of a star or whatever. Nine's darkness had nothing on Ten's, and Donna's comments notwithstanding, there isn't anyone who can stop him. The song fits perfectly, creeping up from cute into unnerving, and then bangs in just after 2mins into fullblown terror. *shivers*

# Handlebars by deejay
Iron Man; Tony
Second vid to this song, and it works for me in a slightly different way. Possibly because (though I had not considered it before) I think I like Tony more than Ten. It's still about a phenomenal amount of power being wielded by someone who probably shouldn't be doing that, but it feels, I don't know, more desperate maybe. Tony teeters on the edge of a different kind of nervous breakdown, he's vulnerable in all his flaws, with all his genius and his flying suit. And there's some great usage made of shots of young!Tony, and also exploding-things!Tony.

# A Thousand Suns by andrastewhite
Torchwood; team; spoilers through Season 2
It's not that this is happy exactly, but it makes me happy. This is the Torchwood I love best: battered and bruised and kind of awfully screwed up, but fighting. And loving each other, and doing the best they can, and being better than the sum of their parts. "We'll raise our hands to fight // still lose ourselves in flames". But seriously, big time spoilers.

# Four Seasons in One Day by greensilver
Heroes; Nathan Petrelli; through Season 2
I'm currently trying to write fic from Nathan's POV, and it's resisting me like crazy. I think this may be why - Nathan is just insanely complicated. He's set up originally, as in the beginning of the vid, mostly in opposition to Peter. But then you get, in the scenes with Peter falling and flying, and the paint-throwing, that there's more to it than that. That, yeah, sometimes it's about the election, but sometimes it's about loving Peter (and Heidi and the boys, and Angela and eventually Claire) so much that it scares him. That he'd do anything to keep them safe and he tries and he loses them anyway. He does troubling things and then terribly brave things and this vid shows both sides of that.

# Creep by bradcpu
Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Buffy/Faith, Buffy/Spike; season 7
This is one of my favourite songs (though not actually my favourite Radiohead), and it fits perfectly with Spike&Faith in Season 7, and also with Buffy herself. I love how it jumps from being in their perspective, into Buffy's, and shows how she views herself isn't how they view her. It also has a beautiful, powerful, closing shot. It's an angsty vid though, if that bothers anyone, but the song choice really should have covered that...

+ Also, my delicious now has Smallville in it. This is what happens when I run out of TV, guys. So, for serious, does anyone here watch? That could maybe tell me the top-ten episodes necessary to read the Clark/Lex? Because mostly I'm reading futurefic which only requires me to know the far-end of canon, and JL/general comics knowledge covers me. But I suspect there is fab h/c out there if only I knew where to look/where the hurt is. Or the cute, or whatever. I've seen the pilot, and I plan on watching Justice - anyone know what else is important?
