Dollhouse squee, and meta-ing

Firstly, you guys, it freaks me out when I am the first one on my flist to link to stuff:
Dollhouse trailerFrom upfronts, so a little rough-cutty, but still much with the awesomeness. And the Eliza kicking ass, and Tahmoh Penikett being all lawman. My current problem is, none of the media previews I've read actually sound like what Joss says the ( Read more... )

See, I only started watching Buffy week-to-week midway through S5. I imprinted on 'Intervention' Spike with Buffy/Spike, which I think makes me a bad judge of these things. Many of the people I know who watched from the beginning, like you, don't like later Spike. S'interesting.

And yes, fic definitely helps with the Doctor thing! I can read Nine things, or read fic full of companion-awesomeness. Or just watch S4, where at least Donna brings him down to size sometimes :)

I think this might be one of those times where I think you are sharing my brain or something ;) Because I admit, I tend to do the not analysing/being critical of my fandoms (though actually yep, I am pretty vocal in Real Life on a lot of this stuff). Mostly I don't say anything because I don't have the skills to say it properly.

My feelings about Spike are complex, random and mostly the reason I never got in to Buffy fandom, aside from getting in to it too late. I get the feeling I'd end up annoying both sides of the Spike argument.

And I think fanfic is inherently skewed towards an individual interpretation of the canon/the characters but in a way that still keeps the characters plausibly in character. Key thing that plausibility *g* (The one argument that I never really got in to as well was Sorkin and sexism, mostly because in some ways I think both sides are right and wrong).

*g* I will admit that is also a factor with me. There are some pretty serious academics in fandom, whereas I am frequently distracted by pretty...

See, I know I love him, but I also know if I'd been around when the discussions were happening, I still wouldn't have got involved. I know the other guys are right a lot of the time, you see! We need a safe space to talk about these things without annoying people ( ... )

Yep, distracted by the pretty - that's my problem ;) (I think that's my problem with Doctor Who actually, I'd honestly try to do some serious analysis and then David/Freema/John/Billy do something particularly hot/adorable/awesome and I get distracted ;)).

*seconds this* I feel like there needs to be somewhere were the non annoying people can have chats about these things without there being any yelling. Because I love Spike, but I don't as well *is weird*

I haven't really seen Studio 60 and so can't comment but I do agree with you really. CJ is so damn awesome and well, I agree with all of this paragraph.
