A Year in Fic

Dec 31, 2006 23:08

Stolen from raedbard. This is the only not-bad thing about New Years. *is unfulfilled* The fireworks are now going off on the TV. I love fireworks in general, but they don't really work so well on a screen

Full-length stories written:17

Chapters of Multi-part fic finished: 4 posted. Westward Look is on about 8 full parts I guess, but none posted until I finally finish.

Shorts: 11 sets of drabble-ish things

the Pairing Stats: 1 House/Chase, 1 Jack/Daniel, 3 Toby&twins, 4 Sam/Toby (and about seventy thousand short things), 1 Ten/Rose, 1 Sam/Josh, 1 Sam/Toby/Josh, 1 Toby/Andy, 1 John/Rodney, 1 Josh&Will, 1 CJ/Danny, 1 Toby/Sam/Will

Total long-fic word count: Apparently 44,478 excluding Westward Look and other things unfinished currently. I am the least productive person *ever*. :-(

My favorite story this year (of my own): In the Changing Seasons. I'm in a very threesome place right now, and this story made me happy. More reviews would be nice, but it was fun to write - a stretch, but worth it to be done. I wish I had more plot to write another one!

My best story this year: In the Changing Seasons again, I think. It has a structure, and repetition of themes, and a good sex scene. All in the one fic, so that's a happy thing.

Story most tragically underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: In the Cha... no, probably Twice Into the River. Because it's Sam/Josh! Seemed like the kind of thing that wouldn't put off the majority of readers, unlike all the Sam/Toby.

Most fun story: Ulterior Motives is pure fluff, and I still think it's cute, though not as sharp as I would like. I have other happy things, but I'm not sure I would call them 'fun'.

Most sexy story: By morning won't exist. Presidential!porn is 0-60 turn-on at the moment, and this is the first one where I allowed it to be about the sex and not just implication. It's still not very explicit, but I think it's enough to be worth warning about, which is progress.

Story with the single sexiest moment: Five things that never happened in the back of a movie theatre. Sam giving Toby a blow-job in the screening room at the White House. Actually, the story above has the sexiest moment (in a similar vein as this one) but I wanted to spread the love. Ditto not mentioning In the Changing Seasons, which has the only real sex scene.

Most unintentionally telling story: The last one of these. I didn't know Sam was unhappy until he told me here, and it's crept into Westward Look as well, this unnamed sadness. Alternately, any of the porny stuff will tell you a lot about me in a different way...

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for me" story: The only one I feel is a little odd is Five things that never happened in the back of a movie theatre, again with President Seaborn having a torrid affair with Toby. But by our standards, how strange is it really? ;-)

Story that shifted my own perception of the characters: These ficlets. Because that was the first Will I wrote, and if I hadn't tried, I probably wouldn't have done any more. Playing about with his character a little let me see him as a writer separate from Sam and Toby, though I still have problems writing him.

Hardest story to write: Within History's Repeating. Hetfic and I always have problems, and this story needed a hammer taken to it for most of the writing process. It only really came together when I finally understood what Andy was doing, and that wasn't until pretty close to its due-date. Andy's jumping back into a doomed relationship is something I admire, but not something I understand very well, let alone understand why she wouldn't do it in the beginning. So it took a while, although I'm proud of how it worked out. Also, I have just realised, despite my chronic underachievement this year, everything I did was on-time. Punctuality for the win!

Worst story: Chinese Food in the Roosevelt Room. Sadly this is one of the Will stories. It's okay but I could have done something better with the prompt. I always get enough words, but sometimes I don't think my mini-fics are as strong as my others, probably just because they're not my pairings. I think Will and Josh are interesting together, but it's not something I would have written without the request.

Easiest story to write: By morning won't exist. I wrote this one in an evening, having been inspired suddenly by the twisty-wrong-sexy idea of nearly-President Seaborn having angsty sex with nearly-felon Toby. The only easy porn I've ever written!

Story I'd like to revise (but probably won't): I'm actually content enough with what I did come out with this year. There's a few, like the one above, that I don't think are great, but the stories that I loved in my head came out mostly how I wanted them. All the revision part of my brain is going to things I'm still fixing.

Story I wish I'd finished: Westward Look. It's so close but I really wanted to be done this year, and I'm not there. Also an Atlantis story that I haven't touched in a while, with Rodney.

Story I didn't write but swear I will, someday: Wonderfalls Season 2, the Sam/Toby TV AU. The second will be done this coming year hopefully.

I'll have a rec-list for the year tomorrow sometime I hope. It should have been done today, but the power was out in our house for most of the afternoon. Gotta love the British inability to cope with weather...

year-end, writing: process stories, writing: meta, fandom: meme
