Second: LOVE. Seriously, love. I saw your other post about Season 7 Will and Sam not co-operating and Elsie, but I *adore* CJ and Danny, both individually and as a couple, and "Institutional Memory" made me cry. That last scene? WOW. So you writing CJ and Danny on a beach in California is right off the bat something wondrous :)
Because this? CJ looked out at the Pacific, and when she looked back at Danny, he was still giving her a hurt look. Or, rather, a mock-hurt look to cover up the fact that he genuinely was a little hurt. Is exactly, exactly it. It's not a young love, but their feelings are a lot more involved than either will admit. And of course they cover them up with banter and teasing.
She owed Leo and the President, and also national security, and that was more important than the way a guy grinned with his chin down, and how he came to visit your fish. And if that, perhaps, explained her current dating record, well that was life.
Is it wrong that I love this about CJ? I love that she's so decisive about this (most of the time) while other characters (in general, not just in TWW) seem to waffle about their feelings. Your matter-of-fact tone sounds so much like CJ. Love Danny visiting Gail :)
"Because I'm always optimistic that I'll get to sit on a beach, and go dabble my toes in the water."
Hee! Reminds me of CJ and Donna in Season 1 talking about their alabaster skin.
Tomorrow she would regret this. She would blame it on the sunshine, though the sun was setting; or the heat, though a chill was in the air, and when Danny offers his coat she may take it. Maybe she would just blame it on the fact that she is a different person in California, where she has never had to evaluate her love life on national security grounds, and on whether telling the truth to a guy she really likes will get the leader of the free world tried in an international court for political assassination. But this is a lie - she is the same person everywhere. Danny just makes her feel like maybe she doesn't have to be.
YES. This is so in-tune with how I see them in "Institutional Memory", with CJ giving up hardcore politics and wanting more, wanting to go with Danny to fix the highways.
CJ knelt down to put her shoes back on, screwing up her face at the damp against the leather.
One last comment: I love this line. Because the annoying thing about wading at the beach is later putting on your shoes when your feet are still wet and sandy. Eww.
*hugs* Wonderful fic, thank you.

*G* I'm sorry I didn't reply to your feedback until now!

No, it's not wrong :-) I both love and envy CJ's strength of decision-making.

And I love that about her too. That she can turn Santos down, even if he's the President, because she's ready to go and do the other thing.
I have a lot of affection for CJ and Danny, even if I wouldn't choose to write them off hand, so thanks for making me write it! And I'm really glad you liked what I came up with.
