He had been taking Sam’s side even before it was explained that Josh had joked about writers’ block. If it had been Toby, worse than paper would have been thrown. There were things that you just didn’t say in the middle of speechwriting.
lol.
How many times did Toby demonstrate that you just don't tempt fate in his presence? :)
The President wouldn’t be able to use the ones implying the fall from Eden was a good thing anyway.
Now, that I would have liked to see on screen.
Nice fic, I loved it!
(And cool icon, BTW)

*nods vigorously* Though given TWW is now over on UK tv, I guess I miss it in general. But early season Sam and Toby (and, admittedly, Josh and CJ and Leo and the President... I'm nostaligia-filled!)
Thanks for the feedback! :-)
(And I love my icon too. It makes me :-D, for they are indeed a dynamic duo)

That the President would read it, and Toby’s words would be Sam’s and Sam’s Toby’s, because no one could tell them apart but each other.
*speechless with love* I've gone all quibbly inside. That's exactly how Toby and Sam fic should be. *loves*

"quibbly"? That makes me very happy :-)
(I think I may overuse smilies and asterixes...) Anyhow, thank you!

This is lovely, and the last line is perfect.

This is ... wow. Possession and apples and Eden imagery and our boys. I'm swoony just thinking about it. I loved this.
“Really? So your Bob Cratchitt look is for whose benefit?”
Hee! Really, who owns the snark? :D
Though Toby’s suffering tended to be louder and inflicted on all of the unfortunates in the communications department. And Josh, when he was foolish enough to get in the way.
I can see Josh cowering from the onslaught, but really, he ought to know better, even early on. :)
“I was looking at the apple, Toby, and honestly, I forgot what it was for.”
*adores hugely* This is ... Sam. It takes a special kind of person to be able to do something like that, and he's it. How can a character be so unreasonably lovable??
“The apple.”
“Yes.”
“You forgot what it was for.”
“Yes.”
“And you’re not drunk.”One word: perfect. :) This kind of exchange is one of the things I love most about ( ... )

Evidence of sharing = swooning. Withdrawal of sharing = also swooning. I love Toby's proprietrariness, and his hurt at Sam's withdrawal. Awww.
a phrase perfect and singing
is beautiful and appropriately so. :)
But then Sam bestowed on him another slow, tired-drunk blink.
Mmmm. How could a person not want to jump him at that time? ;)
Josh wasn’t one of them and he should have known better than to try and get involved.
*nods* See above. Because it's probably easier if you don't disturb the speechwriters when they're busy losing their minds over the 1st SotU. :D I *love* the image of Josh buried under a pile of Sam's balled-up paper!
Toby placed a hand on Sam’s shoulder, catching him as he shied away again. “Home,” he instructed gruffly. “I’ll drive you ( ... )

Oh, Toby. We agreed that words passing from one mouth to another was a kink, yes? (I'm thinking yesOMG! at this point!) But the undercurrent of meaning is what makes it for me. He can't own words that he can't hear, and as you say later, he can't own the words between them. And nor should he. *swoon*
Sam nodded his forehead to Toby’s as if they had agreed on something, though Toby had not spoken and Sam had not been understood.
Clearly Sam understands about possession. :)
These were yet more words that Sam couldn’t say, but this time Toby knew exactly what they were. Knew that they couldn’t do this again, that it would end their careers, and that neither of them would swap the White House for anything. Realism really hurts ( ... )

*giggles* Toby is the *king* of snark. (Though Sam does have his moments!)

I'm so glad you liked that bit. I loved it in my head, for Sam's perplexment at the apple amused me, but then I wasn't sure whether it was slightly OTT on the confusion. And you're right, they did end up a little Jack/Daniel in the conversation! Aww...
The angel and the man left after the Fall. See, you're putting imagery in my head now. Expect this to turn up in Bright Exhalation!
Yay for me! *loves on religious imagery* It works so well in West Wing...
I've totally got a kink about this now. It's the protectiveness, I think. I love Toby taking care of Sam, even in a small way like this. And I love Sam submitting. And careless touches ... *swoon* (I'm counting on you to understand my ( ... )
