Real Life Meme
1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
I had an ECG? That was odd. Nothing terribly exciting I'm afraid.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Apparently I wanted to read and write more, and find a new job. I haven't got a new job, I did read a little more, and did a little less writing. This year I hope to do better.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no.

Just England and Northern Ireland.
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
A new job (this is becoming boring...).
7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Is it okay if I don't remember the actual date? Sitting in the Royal Albert Hall, listening to Idina Menzel sing 'For Good' unmiked and wihout music, just her. Also 'No Day But Today' with audience echo.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I had a piece of flashfic shortlisted for a prize? Next year perhaps someone will actually print something for me.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Completely bombed the job interview for the job that would allow me to go back home and still support myself.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Usual colds etc but nothing major
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I don't think I bought anything other than DVDs and some clothes. Some nice dresses? Thor on bluray?
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I think some of the people involved in the Occupy movement have been saying important things, in the wake of media indifference and police hostility.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Anyone pepper-spraying or otherwise violently dispersing peaceful protest. The UK government taking money away from the people who most need it and are the least wellplaced to protest those cuts. Oh, and then they lied about doing it. The last number of weeks of football have been dominated by reports of racism both on the field and from the stands. It hasn't been the best year.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent. All of the rent.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Lots of movies, anticipation for movies. And a few plays.
16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Rolling In the Deep - Adele, was already in my head, and it's been in our pantomime, so it's definitely part of this year.

Nope.

Probably Doctor Who, although it also infuriated me no end.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nobody new...
26. What was the best book you read?
Snuff, Terry Pratchett
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Cliched and cliched, but I listed to a lot of Mumford and Sons this year.
28. What did you want and get?
I was really trying to hard to think of something here that wasn't 'a DVD' and then I remembered. My Dad got Olympics tickets! Which are for next year, and technically I didn't get them, but still. Olympics!

Oh, a finished novel, a new job etc etc.
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Thor, but more on that below.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was at home, turning twenty-five. I believe I wrote TSN fic. I think that might have also been the day we saw The King's Speech, but don't quote me on that.

Having a canon to write your fanfic from is overrated.
And I could do my boss's job as well as he does and often do.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
TV taught me how to feel
Now real life has no appeal
- Oh No, Marina and the Diamonds

Fandom meme
1. Your main fandom of the year?
The Social Network through til about March, Avengers movieverse over the end of the year. Doctor Who in and about those two.
2. Your favourite film watched this year?
Thor? Maybe. Or X-Men First Class, or Captain America. Something Marvel anyway.
3. Your favourite book read this year?
Snuff, which I did enjoy very much, but it's still mostly a win by default. I wasn't really in love with anything I read this year, though I read Anne McCaffrey's The Ship Who Sang for the first time, as well as The Forever War. Catching up on the things I should have read as a teenager. But I have three new to me Diana Wynne Jones books in my flat right now, so that's something to look forward to.
4. Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?
Mumford and Sons is the unofficial soundtrack of Mark/Eduardo, so I probably listened to that more than anything else. And the
Tegan and Sara cover of Dancing in the Dark. It's awesome, and I think
scrollgirl pointed me in the direction of wherever it was posted, so thanks for that :)
5. Your favourite TV show of the year?
Ack. Lots of things, but the only thing I'm up-to-date with is Doctor Who. Which frustrates me more often than it should. I also enjoyed/am enjoying Fringe, My Little Pony and Young Justice. My main problem at the moment is that I mostly prefer things I can watch on my TV rather than stream, because then I can type at the same time. Like right now I've got Futurama DVD commentaries on. Just to prove my Dad right that whatever amazing things he gets me for Christmas, I'll go and put on something I bought years ago instead. Sorry Daddy ♥
6. Your favourite LJ community of the year?
I enjoyed hosting
poetry for a week. And I'd recommend
bestthingever which is a rec comm for fannish butterflies like me, for new fics in any fandom.
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Does Avengers count? My love of Tony Stark is not new.
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I haven't seen anything of Merlin this year, though I probably will catch up at some point in the future. Bits of Doctor Who really annoyed me, but I don't think it disappointed me overall.
9. Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Rory Williams - he is my very favourite. I love Tony Stark too, but I would not in any way want to date him.
10. Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Amy Pond 11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
The Avengers trailer. Tony and Steve snarking at each other. Also Neil Gaiman's episode of Doctor Who and the TARDIS noises/kissing+biting/words.
12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
American Idol :(
13. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
I've heard good things about Once Upon a Time, and it has fairytales in it.
14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
The Avengers! Also The Hunger Games film. But at the moment we're all about The Avengers here in
blackeyedgirl central.
