"No one ever lacks a good reason for suicide."

84 pages at ScriptFrenzy. And yet I feel farther and farther from finishing. At least I'm off work on the 29th, so I can write all of the daytime. Dark Materials on stage in the evening though. Yay! If this play is not awesome, I will be sad for months - I can't cope with bad adaptions of things I love. Philip Pullman was doing a talk on Friday, and I went to have a listen. He was very good, but I kind of wanted all the questions to be about the Milton comparisons, and the "not human" narrative voice. All the stuff about adaptions, and about the "mid-west" boycotters who don't read (I'm not sure that was what/where he meant) was interesting too, but I was more interested in the craft.

(There's a post, here, that I was writing about narrative voice. I was singing Assassins on the way home, and it's not the kind of thing you can sing out loud. Because the characters sing things the play doesn't agree with. But it doesn't wholly disagree either. It's about how the country creates its assassins, and how the assassinations are ultimately self-defeating. But the missing post was mostly about how 'Into the Woods' and 'Assassins' both feature the sacrifice of the narrator. The voice of reason/order in the story is thrown to the giant, or forced off and then (cross-casting used metaphorically FTW) drawn into the madness. The Balladeer becomes Lee Harvey Oswald, and listens to the voices of historical discontent. Man I love Sondheim)

I kind of just want my lgbtfest fic to be posted now. I'm worried it drifted a bit from its mission-statement into pairing fic. Which is fine, but perhaps not so much the point of the fest. It just feels a bit light in places, to me. But I guess we'll see on Tuesday. It's certainly longer than my usual, if nothing else. And it will almost certainly be the only time I write 'coming out as an adult' fic, so it has novelty value going for it. Even if you don't like Idol fic ;)

Next month (aside from Dark Materials, and Chicago, and flying raedbard visits... honey, are you aware you're visiting on Idol night? ;) ) is for editing the script. And also entourage_fest, if I ever decide which of my unfinished beginnings to work on. *sighs* Possibly it is also for the other Idol fic.

Idol AUs I am not writing:
- the one where Ryan wasn't lying all those times he said he was straight. No, I'm really not writing this one, I'd just like to see someone attempt to explain some of the things that happen on that stage with something else.
- the one where Simon is a mid-level record exec in LA, driving around late at night, and falls for the voice on the radio. Ryan is the guy who moved to LA to get into the business, but at the minute all they trust him to do is the midnight to four a.m. shift on the station. Then the British guy starts calling in at 2 a.m. to complain about the music he's playing. *g* Sometimes I want to write romcoms - is this a crime?
- the one where Simon leaves one of the many times he threatened to. He comes back in Season 10 to 'save' the flagging show, but Ryan won't forgive him that quickly.
- the one "where Simon and Ryan were both like 15 years younger on the show and Simon was still a judge, but Ryan was a contestant?'" Oh, wait, I am writing that one. :S (S'all smilebackwards fault. She held me down and forced me to write the step-by-step plan, and create the soundtrack...)

If this entry sounds weird, it's because I've spent the whole day trying to write out the reasons my protaganist tried to kill herself. Almost anything else seems giggle-inducing.
